05 G35 sedan 6MT has 298 hp?!?!

I knew the 05 was due for an increase. I just went on the infiniti site and saw that the 05 G35 sedan 6MT is getting 38 more horses than last year. I thought this was only on the coupe! we better watch out.......

Watch our for what. I would rather have a better built all around car. The Infiniti looks very cheap inside in my opinion. I went from an Audi S4 which could easily outrun a G35 coupe or sedan. But unless you are on a race track you really don't need the power.

The Auto sedan will have 280 hp, and 270 lbs of torque, an increase of 20 and 10 over the '04 model.

Yeah, but dang it's so expensive. I just went online to build one and it was $38,000 w/AWD. That is a little high to me. And it still looks the same, just a little curving of the front end and more hp.

The leases on them are VERY VERY cheap! You're talking about TL non/nav lease pricing for the loaded one you configured. I wouldn't buy it, I would lease it. BTW, with you being in FL, why would you need AWD?

I meant I went online to build the 05 G35 and it was $38k. I just wanted to know how much it was topped out. AWD would still be kind of cool though!

LOL, that's what I was thinking. The AWD G35 is a little slower, heavier, and not as fuel efficient as the RWD models.

I didn't know that either. Wow.

My friend, I must respectfully disagree with you with this statement. Gearheads ALWAYS want more power. It's just the nature of the beast within them. the concept of "need" is not the question. It would be the same as saying, "you don't need that large of a house" or "you don't need that many guns". In my perfect TL world, I would like 300 HP and 270-280 lb/ft of torque. The reason I chose those limits is simply because in the TL's present configuration (FWD, etc.), that is right there at the limits of the car's ability to deliver that kind of power to the street. But were it a RWD, more power would be desired.

Yes more power is always good and in a lot of ways is safer. But where I live there is so much traffic now that you can rarely use it.

More power is safer? I agree that you need enough power to safely merge into traffic sometimes, but I can't think of any other time when it could be considered a safety feature.

I agree that "unless you are on a race track you really don't need the power". Note the word "need". In my previous ride, a 97 Prelude (195hp), the only time I ever "needed" (and yearned for) more power was on the front straight at the track. On the street, I found it plenty capable (some might not like it's high reving nature - I loved it). With the TL, it's very difficult to come close to the performance limits without getting yourself into serious trouble (physically or with the law). Ditto with the G35.

The HP wars will be constant. What the G35 doesn't need is more HP (in my opinion). What it badly needs, it won't be getting.

It is safer when you quickly need to move out of the way of a potential accident.

Why do these simple threads just merely making a statement end up turning into a battle?

Your correct on the auto but the 6Mt will get 298. '03 and '04 6mt sedans were underated. A few people were getting 230-234 RWHP on dynos.

As far as needing more horsepower, that is subjective. Being that it's a RWD platform, it will handle the HP better than a FWD. I have yet to see FWD trannies in 250+hp cars last the life of the car.

I wasn't talking about the manual G35, I was talking about the AUTO version, which is clearly noted in my words. I don't think we needed you to tell us that the 6MT version will have 298, being that it says it IN THE TITLE OF THE THREAD, so thanks!

Ditto, my friend.

I can think of a host of reasons why more power is a good thing, but I think, in this thread, the concept I have the most problem with is that of "needing" more power. Who's going to tell me what I can "need" and not "need"? I pointed out this with my analogy to "needing" a bigger house of more guns. It's not really a question of needing at all.. it's a question of wanting.

I simply would like (want) more power. Whether or not I use it is my concern and my business. I am quite careful when and where I exercise my engine's abilities. The fact that I have not had a moving violation in close to 34 years is testamony to that.

Yep, need and want. We Americans don't like someone telling us, "you don't need this" or "you don't need that". Kind gets our dander up, you know.
