It's never been a bad car, the styling was a bit gawky and the interior kind of low rent. They seemed to have addressed those issues. The front end is now cleaner like the coupe and the interior materials, especially with the real wood option, are a lot better. It should do well. That's the car game. Each year enhancements one-up the features of the prior year. The G getting better certainly doesn't make the TL any less of a contender. Competition is good - the consumer always wins.

If you overlook the still-unattractive-but-slightly-improved interior and the butt-ugly orange gauges, the tail lights are still the most hideous things on the road. The TL's Bauhaus VW copycats are one thing, but the 35's Chinese Pagoda's are a huge eyesore.

I'm putting in blue leather headrests and blue cocoa mats to match the TL's gauges.

My friend bought a G35x a few weeks ago.

I don't know what the big deal is about that car. I actually never test drove the G35 nor sat in the inside so I had no idea what to expect, except all the hype around the car led me to believe it had a comparable interior.

No way. It's gaudy, cheap looking, and the front seat headrests are wimpier than the rear seat ones. The TL's interior is farrrrrrrrr better. Hands down. And the car looks kinda funny (a little too narrow and too tall) from the rear when you're following it.

It's a nice car, it was my 2nd choice except for bad experience with Nissan products in the past (and good experience with Honda)

Better than the current model but the interior is still not as nice as other cars, especially the TL.

I love my TL, rattles and all, but the TWO door G35 is the prettiest car on the road now, bar none. My favorite car of all time, the AMG SL 55 2 door 12 cylindar Mercedes is the only thing that challenges it for sheer automotive beauty.

The four door --- notsomuch. TL is the best bang for the buck, and drives like a champ. The G35 drives a bit better, IMHO, but the overall "feel" for me didn't compare. In the end, I wound up a 1/2 percent over invoice on a non-navi Anthracite with Ebony interior and am very pleased overall.

Seems like Infiniti didn't care to do anything about the interiors fit n' finish still. It still sucks. I'm assuming the interior being photographed is a press car. For a press car, the interior pieces sure do have a lot of alignment issues. The lack of interior quality is probably the number one reason I have stayed away from the G's and also scares me from looking at any other Infiniti's.

Everyone keeps bashing the G35 in this forum...no reason. It's a very good car, and the interior isn't as brutal as everyone seems to think once you're behind the wheel. As pretty as the TL -- not a chance. But the TL can't keep up with the G when it comes to handling either. It just depends on what you're looking for, a car built from the inside out or vice versa.

At 20-24k miles / year, I'll take my TL, thankyewverymuch.

I don't see what everyones problem is with the g35 interior and exterior either. It seems to be quite appealing to car mags which is why it was car of the year and is still in the top 10 of most car mags. Infiniti revised all the problems people had with the G35 and even gave a bonus of 15 horsepower. Infiniti is definetely a compnay that listens to the consumers to please their needs. All the cheap interior pieces have been replaced with real aluminum and real wood. I definetely see the g35 becoming car of the year again with all its fix-its. Whatever consumers complained about in the past are now fixed. They even revised the automatic transmission to shift faster and made 19" wheels standard. As of right now, the automatic has almost zero lag unlike the TL which has alot. Handling is of no comparison. The G35 handles way better. I have to admit the TL has a nice interior, but the G35's is nice also. If infiniti wanted to make a more luxurious interior then they would have. The g35 is a sport/lux sedan more focused on performance and sportiness. If you want something more luxurious than the g35, then get a i35 or m45. The upcoming m45 interior wipes the floor with the TL interior as well as the upcoming RL.

G35 was my second choice. The TL interior sealed the deal for me. The 2005 may have been enough to sway my choice. It doesn't matter; they are both fantastic cars.

My sentiment exactly.....I was sold on the G until I saw the TL. The G is a great car....handles well, drives real fine...but as so many others have said, once I climbed into the TL the interior (plus the overall smooth feeling) switched me over. But had the TL not shown up, I'd be driving a G today.

G would have been my second choice. i prefer the TL styling over the G and the tech goodies on the TL offered more value.

Something I like about the G35:

First of all is the handling. But more importantly is the breaking distance. It takes the TL almost 140 ft (non brembo) to stop from 60 mph while it only takes about 115 ft (non brembo) for the G35 to stop from the same speed. 25' different is equals to 3 car lengths. :0) Well, everyone has their own priority when it comes to cars.

Actually, the difference is not as large. The TL is 186.2 inches long which works out to be 15.5 feet. Therefore, 25 feet does NOT equal to 3 car lengths unless you are talking about one of those Japanese mini cars. Secondly, It's be reported that the braking distance for the 5AT is somewhere in the vicinity of 128 to 131 feet based per MT and C&D. Please correct me if I am wrong. That comes out to be about 13-16 feet difference or only about 1 car length. I just wanted to set the record straight.

I don't wish to start a war, but most automotive authorities I've read consider a one car length difference 60-0 to be a BIG difference.

jdone,

Don't worry . My post was not intented to flame anyone. It was more for clarification purposes. I do agree that the difference between excellent brakes and very good brakes can be a matter of 10 feet or so in the stopping distance. That can be the difference between a very close call and a nasty accident. I was meerly trying to say that the difference was on the order of 1 car length vs. 3 as written by xedap1998. It was probably an honest error on his part. Even up until a few years ago, I thought that an average car was about 10 feet long . So a 25 feet diff. would be close to 3.

I agree. The problem is the quality of the materials in the G35. Look how sparse the floor carpeting is.

I have a 2004 TL, my girlfriend has a 2004 G35.

The G35 is a better driver's car, period. Rear-wheel drive, thicker steering wheel, better handling. A notch quicker and better "manu-matic" transmission (drops down a gear when you go over).

TL has a far better interior. G35 has far better quality than my TL.

You think? I think the G35 has better fit and finish, but the TL has better materials. The G35 feels tinny to me, the TL solid. Take the doors for example. The G35's doors are light and don't close with a thunk. The TL's doors are more solid and heavier...

Hate the G35 Interior, even with the improvements- TL wins hands down (except for wood with aluminum - still can't get over it)

I like the '05 G35's stock rims/wheels styling much better than the stock TL. I'd prefer what you see on the concept picture on the Acura-tl forum over the stock rims. I'd even prefer those on the '05 G35 pic placed on an '04 TL. I really don't like the stock TL wheels or tires (EL-42).

My 2 cents.

there was a TOV dyno of the TL and it's suspected that our engines are capable of 285hp easy. the ecu is supposedly pulling back some hp at about 6200rpm. i would not be surprised if acura releases the 05 or 06 with some extra juice.

The engine in the 04TL is the same engine as the 03TL-S so that means that the engine really isn't capable of that much more. The comptech supercharger only gives the TL-S 50 hp or so because the car isn't capable of more horsepower without having to change alot of internals. The engines in the TL's are very limited to what you can do to them.

Also, honda/acura won't increase the horsepower anymore because its FWD. The car already has enough torque steer as it is. The only way there will be an increase on hp is if the SH-AWD comes out for a future TL-S

The interiors are identical, it's the same car. Acura cannot add any more power to the FWD TL. It's already at the limits. 7 more hp in the sedan? Who cares? There is a great editorial in the new Car and Driver using the TSX as an example. The article was about FWD is going to become a thing of the past as the horsepower keeps jumping upwards.

It's rated better because of its price and the rear-wheel drive. The reviewers look past so many other negatives for these two reasons. You get what you pay for.

Orange stitching in the steering wheel... Ummm, no. Also, big rocker switches on the wheel don't really do it for me, and they're a pain in the arse to clean... No thanks.
