01 TL vs 03 Accord V6 vs 97 Maxima SE

I have a 01 Acura TL and my friend just bought an 03 Honda Accord V6(very nice). Well on the way to the movies his Accord was packed with 4 guys each between 180-250lbs and my other friend's Maxima had 2 guys in it, both about 150lbs. Well my Maxima friend was talking smack but we kept up with him but he started to pull away. He attributed his "win" due to the 5-Spd Manuel. I told him it was due to the extra weight riding in the Accord to "lose". Just wanna get this straight with the rest of you:

1st 2003 Accord V6
2nd 2001 3.2 TL
3rd 1997 Maxima SE

err...okay. Well that's how the cars rank in terms of peak horsepower, but more horsepower doesn't necessarily make one car faster than another just because it has more of it.

I think that Maxima is lighter and being a manual (and not my cousin Manuel ) probably attributed to the win. That Maxima is pretty quick too..

Um but they are all 5 speeds.
Maxima=190hp
TL=230hp(light mods,TL-S Throttle Body and intake)
Accord V6=240hp

Besides did ANYONE read my post, the Accord was full of FAT PEOPLE and the Maxima had skinny guys, and the Maxima barely beat us. If it was even weight the Accord would of torn it apart!!! Mabye I answerd my own question, just getting a general idea here.

Oh, and I'm done with street racing (since I sold my 1994 B16-Powered Civic EX). I just like having a car that can play with little stoplight racebois, when I need it.

5spd auto < 5spd manual --------in most cases

it'll be a close match for the AV6 and the max, but i'm still going with the max

I dunno, I wouldnt race a newer Accord way to much upper horsepower, however from personal experience my best friend has a 2000 TL. I have a 1997 Maxima 5speed. I slowly walk on the TL day in and day out. Because of me slowly getting away from a TL, I highly doubt if I raced a Accord V6 I would slowly get away from that also. I say it comes down to weight and obviously driver skill.

Except for the Accord, I'm not too familar with either the Maxima or TL, but I think you're basically correct in your assumption that weight had the Accord at a disadvantage. I've never tracked my Accord, but have raced many of my cars at the drag strip for many years. I currently run my ZR1 Corvette and Buick Grand National, and the basic rule of thumb is that 100 lbs. basically equally a lose of 10hp, or one-tenth of a quarter mile time. So if you have an excess of 200 lbs in your car you have essentially lost 20hp and two-tenths. Granted this is basically applied to high horsepower cars, but would certainly make a difference in the cars you have mentioned.

In reality the Accord V6 auto and 4th gen Maxima 5MT are pretty much dead even in the 1/4 mile, but they get there via completely opposite ways. The Maxima pulls like mad off the line but is wheezing above 5k in 3rd after 80 mph. The Accord is exactly the opposite. It's weaker off the line but once it gets solidly wound up in VTEC it pulls pretty hard, especially after 80 mph. The two cars are dead even at the 1/4 mile mark (assuming decent driver in the Maxima) but the Accord will be waving bye bye after that. In a street race up to 60-80-ish speeds I'll put money on the Maxima everytime, as long as I know the driver is decent and the knock sensor functional. The TL-P is heavier and less powerful than the Accord. The 15.0 time would have to be the most ridiculously optimistic mag time ever for a TL-P. It was probably a Motor Trend time on the downhill direction of their test track corrected to 20 below zero. That's practically a TL-S time, so that's like saying the TL-S's extra power and torque don't do jack which is nonsense. If you want to compare best ever TL-P times mag or forum then I suppose I can post up some stock Maxima 14.7 slips. Autoweek also got a 14.9 for a '95 Maxima 5spd way way back in the day IIRC also. But mag racing is really pointless.

yep when are the street racers gonna learn? I admit i used to be but i saw photos of people before and after accidents due to street racing and signed up for SCCA.
for 65 bucks (i believe it was) i got this year's membership. then i can for 12 bucks(because i pick up cones afterwards) i run a afternoon worth of autocross even if your not a member it's only 15. so 15 cheaper than either wrecking your car or getting a hell of a ticket.
that's why i finally quit street racing also, the cops locally are coming down HARD on street racers. it's like automatic min. 500 buck fine and you gotta go in front of a judge. plus 6 pts.

My stock TL-S took care of a 95 max 5-speed w/ y-pipe/intake/ and exhaust pretty nicely. Once 3rd gear hits on the TL-S, the maxipad is flushed down the toilet. :gheylaugh:

That doesn't sound like you are completely done with street racing to me.

Even stoplight to stoplight is
