Thinking about dropping the 'Bu for a Denali.
Browsing around & there's a few locally that fit what I'd want; color, mileage, options, price.
Got a bit spoiled having my dad's 2012 Denali XL for our Florida trip (Apart from the fillups).
Anyone know of any major issues with the 2016-17 Suburban/Yukon XL, particularly the 6.2 & 8AT? @rockstar143

Brother, same old displacement on demand lifter shit...and little odds and ends.
just fixed ours at 144k miles...ac was wonky, $32 blend door actuator.

Also, the roof/hood clear is starting to fail already so take a CLOSE look at all horizontal surfaces.
I replaced the rear magnetic ride shocks with new used ones about 3 years ago...
damn thing has been solid and a bad motherfucker. I still highly recommend if you don't mind
undressing some things.

Not opposed to some DIY.
And, my dad is about to start working for a semi-local Chevrolet dealer (svc mgr) so some hookup there too.

Hard sell, is mama's Flex has 140k on it, while the Bu only has 83k. I've also had 6 cars since we've been together & she's on her 2nd :giggle:

But, she wants either a Wagoneer or a Telluride, neither of which is an easy find, and she hasn't driven either yet.

They chug fuel like a drunken sailor on a weekend off.

Those two are so different from one another in every way it's not even funny...

Posted in the 'Photo of your ride' thread, but will add it here.
Picked up a 2018 Expedition Max Limited on Monday to replace my wife's ailing 2013 Flex SEL

We bought the Flex in 2015, so it's served us well & had just over 140k when we traded it in.
But, it was starting to have its issues. It had a difficult to replicate cold start issues that would only present on very hot days. If it sat in the sun all day (at work) it just wouldn't do anything, the dash would all come on, but the starter wouldn't engage.
The backup camera was going out, was about a 50/50 chance of it coming on, and another 50/50 of it looking correct. We'd had the gridlines disappear, image upside down, guidelines angled at a crazy pitch.
And within the past couple weeks, the unlock button on the fob quit working.

Wednesday the Exped went back to the dealer so they could 'finish' it
Wasn't sure what that meant, but it worked out as we'd noticed a cold start rattle from the engine. A bit of browsing on an Expedition forum & found that there's a TSB (or whatever the Ford term is) for the cam phasers.
Step 1 is to reflash the PCM, they did that & it made no change.
Step 2 is replacing the cam phasers. They've ordered the parts & are going to schedule bringing it back in to get that done. 100% covered up to 79,999 miles, but only applies once.
Bonus is that they're replacing the shocks, brakes, wipers, cabin & air filters while they've had it this week. I guess they'd put it on the lot prior to running it through the shop. I'll take 2 days in a droney purple ashtray of a F150 for all that being covered.

Congrats! This thing looks so comfy to cruise around in... Hopefully many happy years and miles to come!

Does this have the 5.4L V8? Those are notorious for cam phaser issues. Hopefully it's a one and done deal though. How many miles are on it that they have to do that much work to get it ready for you?

3.5 EcoBoost & 10AT. Had it been the 534, I'd have passed, didn't care for it in the 2013 ExEL that we used to have for a corp car. It's been replaced by a 2021 Exped XLT, also with the 3.5TT/10AT.
Only 34k on it, but not complaining about them replacing a couple grand worth of parts, gratis.

Got home yesterday, went to set parking brake & got a loud pop & pedal to the floor. Almost exactly a year ago that I replaced the P-brake.
Poked my head into the footwell & can see it actuating the cable, then it engaged
Also got a couple hard downshifts 6>5
Hoping this can keep soldiering on for a bit, would rather not have 2 car notes if I can help it.

Today, all was normal & brake is holding, but the random kick was the precursor to it failing last year.

Just don't set the parking brake? Put it in park and walk away.

Old habits die hard.
My first 2 cars didn't have a park lock, so you could drop it out of park with then engine off & a couple manual cars have it ingrained in muscle memory.

Well, it's up to you if that muscle memory is worth repairing it all over again.

Parking brake helps to take load off the park pawl when parking on an incline but if you don't care about the car or are parked on a relatively flat surface then don't bother.

Right, at our old house the driveway had a decent slope to it.
Relatively flat at the house now, just a hard habit to break.

The Expedition (and my former Mercedes & F150) apply the P-brake automatically when you turn it off, IIRC.

For the MiniBus, Morimoto or Diode Dynamics for LEDs?
Would like to do the Bu too, but don't want to have to pull the bumper to do it.

We've had Morimotos in the CRV for at least 3 years. They work well. Wait for a holiday weekend when they typically have 15% off.

Thanks, at $200 either way, I can hold off for a sale.
Drove the Exped for the first time at night yesterday, not bad, but could be better. Definitely not as bad as my F150 was. The halogens were atrocious.

For DD & Mori
Not in any rush, need to get it out in full dark & see if it's something I should look harder at, or can wait. We've got a couple road trips coming up & good visibility on unfamiliar roads will be a bonus.

Still need to figure out getting Sync3 updated enough to enable AndroidAuto as well. I did an update, but it's still on 3.0, IIRC AA came about with 3.1

I threw some amazon specials LED into the Yukon and Merc and they've been great. Bright and all and didn't break the bank.

Went rounds on the MiniBus over the past week.
Had no AndroidAuto with my phone.
Pulled a Sync3 update from the Ford owner site & updated via USB. That put me at 3.0.17276
Still had no AA

Got an update USB & went to 3.4.22110, and got a maps update for the NAV, still no AA :bored.
Didn't even show the phone as a media device via USB, only BT.

Reading a bit online, seems to have been a known issue with AA v7.x & Samsung S22 phones.
Checked & I'm on AA v8.x

Last ditch, swapped the charge cord for the one to my daughter's ZTE Gabb phone, AA works great & I don't get the slow charge message on the phone.
Weird that the OE Samsung cord wasn't capable of AA.
Love having Waze on the big screen & Spotify at the same time.

Bit of a trip on the interstate last night, average MPG meter (shows in 6 minute increment bars), indicated almost 30mpg at 70mph.
In 10th gear at 70, it's only turning about 1600RPM.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both very sensitive to what cord you use, had that issue many times. Get a good one and you should be good to go.

I guess the older AA was less picky. Never had a problem in the F150 with a Note & S9+ with the OE Samsung cable.

I like it for trips, especially Waze. We're headed on a 6hr drive Friday, so it'll be nice to have user reported GPS en route.

I'm sure I would love it if I had it.

I do too, in both cars, but running Waze on the 8" screen is better than on the much smaller phone.

The 'Bu, doesn't even do BT audio, just phone calls.

Got a 3.5mm input?
I used a bluetooth module in the input on the vette, gets teh job done and only takes 2 seconds to turn it on.

My Bu is a 2012, I believe 2013 was the first year for BT audio in the redesign,
My dad's Denali is likewise a 2012, no BT audio there, but he has NAV & a HDD in dash [OE] that can rip CDs to the HD, so no USB audio needed.

Yeah, the Malibu got a full new model for 13, so I think the updated infotainment had it. Tahoe/Burban was 2014 redesign IIRC, & got it then.

The V & Z have the audio out the rear, so no stereo needed

It's been years since I've been in a C6, and almost all of these were new on the lot, so didn't get to play with the Bose too much.

The brief drive I got in my uncle's Centennial GS, I was enjoying the ride & the noise, don't think I even turned the stereo on

4 day weekend in Hot Springs, AR. The MiniBus was great & ate up highway miles with ease. The ACC & driver assist stuff definitely makes the long drives easier. Set the CC to 80 & relax.
At 80, it's chugging along at around 20mpg, drop into the 60s & we were seeing peaks near 30mpg, more often around 24.
Roughly 800 miles +/- a bit round trip & did it on 2 tanks of gas.

MiniBus got a bath when we got home.
