Regarding the seats, I debated looking for a seat shop, or getting a new set from Acura (if that’s even an option now), but overall it’s in decent enough shape that i won’t bother for now. Plus, when I pick the kids from tennis in the summer and end up with a thick coat of sunscreen all over the seats I only have a mild conniption.

What I really need to replace is the front center armrest lid, padding is all collapsed and it looks like hell.

Sweet!

Started off pretty dirty, ppf and silver hides a lot

closer shot of dirt and my numbers. You can also see the abysmal fitment of my new continental tires… the rim is doing a good job protecting the tire from curbing. If I return to the Sport 02 tires, I’ll go 5 or 10 mil up. But I’ll need to widen the front too, I don’t want infinite understeer.

washed.

interior, I hate cleaning alcantara, especially the steering wheel. I didn’t take pics of the interior after the burst of rain at the car meet while I had my windows down. But I did clean the doors and the seats again once they dried.

I thought your floating period was a dot on my iPad’s screen and I kept trying to scrub it off. Then I realized it was moving with the screen LOL! After zooming in, I saw your white font text. But yes, I fully support your acquisition of a Carrera GT!

If I'm buying a 911 it's likely to be one similar in age to your Cayenne.

Just confirms I'm more of a 944 or older Cayman/Boxster market.

That one seems to be overpriced IMO, I'd peg something like that into the 60's but not the 80's. Maybe into the low 70's for a stock example but mods on old cars take away from the value, certainly don't add to it. Also the miles on this one aren't crazy low.

Also, 5 years ago this thing would have been like $35k!

That said, I'm really wondering if these are even worth it anymore. I'm sure they're fantastic to drive and own but that price is incredibly steep when you consider the other options in this range like the Audi R8, MB AMG GT-S, M3, M5, etc.

agreed, the math doesn’t add up to me either. Even models that are produced in the tens of thousands are highly valued. And the 996 and 997 aren’t completely trouble free. A friend of mine had to replace a huge amount of the electrical wiring because it had an eco friendly jacket on the cabling and it rotted out.
The older the Gen, the smaller the car feels, which I think is cool for a “fun” car, but some of the interiors are pretty dated. Another complaint I could see is that depending on the model they aren’t ‘that’ fast. Additionally, many have long gears which takes some of the fun out of it.
I am being a bit critical here, because they are pretty cool, but I do think the bubble is overinflated. It is fun to hear the engine noises from the wrong end, it’s also fun to drive at an Autocross, where mashing the throttle moves any weight (grip) the front had over the rear wheels and now all you have is miles of understeer. Similarly, it’s fun when you get your braking just right, start your turn-in with the front loaded, lots of grip then transition over to throttle and then hopefully the rears are closer to their limit to give you a nice rotation, otherwise you’re back to understeer.

I can’t speak from experience, but I feel like some of the newer cars especially the BMW M5 G90, feels more like a Tesla Model S competitor than a 911 just because of weight and insane acceleration.

for 100k you can get a Ferrari F430, and from what I read, other than the hydraulic for the paddle shifters those are fairly reliable.

anyways, i hope the bubble calms down a bit.

You're absolutely right on all counts. I have no doubt that any 911 is an astonishingly good car to drive but to spend $80k+ on a 20 year old car with 82k on the clock...and also one where they weren't limited run nor did they ever stop making them, seems to be a bit silly. The 996 has definitely come up in price because it was seen as the cheaper option and probably still is but that's nuts to me and beyond what I'd spend on a car like this.

Just turned 121,100 miles.

Cleaned up and hoping that spring's here for good.

It's funny how time flies - when the 3rd gen first came out, I saw them everywhere and they were taken care of.

As the years go on, I rarely ever see a clean TL - all have faded paint, cracked dashboards, and body damage galore.

Your car brings me back to 2010 - I love to see it.

If you look closely there are some well-worn pieces of trim, etc., and the dash cracks hidden by a fitted alcantara dash cover. Still, I love driving her, even into my tenth year of ownership.

Every now and then, I see another 3G TL (usually a Type-S in silver), but very rarely. Sighting of red ones are even rarer.

Yea, same here unfortunately!
Nanxun, I’m glad you still enjoy driving her! I just got back from our spring break and I had a bunch of errands to run today so I spend all afternoon running around town. I decided to take the TL-S which made those errands a lot more enjoyable.

Lines on the 3G TL have stood the test of time. They still look better than 80%-90% of cars on the road today, IMHO.

Not entirely sure if you're actually interested in the info.

In any case, below is a link to what I have: the "SuedeMat" dashboard cover made by DashMat and available at Autonotions.com
  • Just have to select the make, model, year of vehicle to which you want it fitted.
  • Might seem a little "low-rent" to some, but for me it beat the spider-web of cracks that were/are spreading across my dash.
  • Around $75 w/out shipping and taxes

Not bad. Mines cracked up pretty bad as well. I’ve seen people buy dash skin? But that one looks kind of tacky to me.

any pics of it installed?

OK, @Mizouse , as per your request, took some pics of the dash cover in different intensities of sunlight while running errands this morning.

The fit isn't 100% precise at the edges, but the pre-cut holes for dash vents, auto-headlight sensor, passenger-side airbag all line up well.

I've had no problems in terms of basic functions and am satisfied with the quality and look of the material, but that depends on personal taste, ofc.

Perhaps most importantly, I'm spared the daily demoralization that comes from having to look at the gradually spreading spider-web of cracks!!

Anyway, hope these shots give you a fairly good sense of what you might be able to expect if you go for it.
