Thanks!

Bike is a 1976 CB750 bored to 836cc. Just about everything on this bike is customized. 2006 Yamaha r6 front end swap, Mikuni carbs, Tarozzi rear sets, Dime city cycles headlight, cafe seat pan and pads, cat eye tail light, progressive rear shocks, powder coated engine parts/calipers/fork connector/plus other various matching parts, custom side panels, custom fabwork with the relocation of master cylinders, tail, and various other parts, upsized tank, push start button with keyed ignition, upgraded filters, 4 in one exhaust and headers with wrap, and clip on race bars with shorty levers. Think that's it.

Guy wanted one of my karts which I had listed for $1500. Told him it was worth more but just wanted it cleared out of the shop. Gave me a $2k value on it, so I gave him the kart and some cash. Been wanting to get back on two wheels so it was hard to say no. Plus I just sold a cadet kart that morning for about the same amount of the cash part of the deal... so figured, why not. Have a few things to do (speedo, turn signals, plate mount, white rim stripe) but I already have some ideas and parts are cheap online. I also have a buddy who builds bikes so he can fabricate mounts for me if need be (may need him for the plate). Pretty excited about it. Just picked it up yesterday and snapped a few pics before wheeling it into the garage...

LOL.. Lifetime warranty so tag stays on. I've given up on hiding it regularly But they're not Christmas decorations. Just woodsy looking swags. Lights only go on during the holidays though

Name Change/Title change required

You do not drive a Subata. However, what you do drive looks great.

Yeah! I need to PM whoever is in charge to change my name to JS + NB2. haha

The car is a freaking blast. I can honestly say that fun factor wise, it's better than my BRZ. I had both cars for about a month too so I had a chance to experience both cars for awhile.

The car was stupid cheap, everything's cheap for the car too. I picked up a brand new RSRR tires 205/45/15 for $260 picked up here in LA hahaha

I will make a separate thread for the car! Have some good plans.

First long road trip for the new ride, which ran like a champ over the 1,200 miles up to and back from Cape Cod and averaged 33 mpg.

As some of you from ramblings know, I lost my father in law a couple weeks ago. He was a very well respected mechanic in his community and its been a hard pill to swallow.

About 4 years ago he picked up a car from a customer for a song and dance. A 1962 Imperial Lebaron (for a brief period Chrysler spun Imperial off on its own marque) 1 of 1449 made, blue in color, engine runs strong, he changed the brakes not too long after getting it. And he never really drove it. It just sat at his shop and he would tinker with it when he had time. He kept saying he was going to sell it, and occasionally would say someone is coming to look at it. But its still there. He really liked that car.

I was hoping to personally take and keep the car as automobiles is the connection we shared. But I don't know. Its a hulking beast and while it runs...its old and needs a lot of work that I can't have done any time soon. Since odometers only had 5 spaces back then I don't know if they car has 10k or 100k miles on it. And honestly, I'm scared to drive the fucking thing...its a 5000lb behemoth with drum brakes. I did put a couple gallons of gas in it today and started it.

I'm still trying to find out what the actual street market value of the car is...I know what resources such as Hagerty say, but what will someone actually pay for this thing. And if it is worth a small amount, then it could be sold so the money can go to my MIL...If its not worth much of anything, I may well hang on to it for a bit. Who knows.

Video of starting it up:

So very sorry to hear about your loss, my condolences to you and your family....

In regards to the car I would probably do as you said. First try to find out what the market value of the car is in various states (poor, fair, good, excellent) of condition, and then determine if it is even worth holding on to until you're in a position to work on it. Based on the numbers you get then you obviously need to figure out what it will cost to restore the car.

I could be wrong (it won't be the first time) but looking at the amount of work it needs from the pics, you would probably be better off selling it and giving your MIL the money. IMO the amount of money you will spend will exceed the value when completed.

Then again this only works if your connection to the car isn't too strong, if it is well then that could change everything. Being car guys we know that if our attachment to a vehicle is strong usually the financial side of the equation doesn't matter, and we spend what we have to regardless if we're upside down in the end.

Tough decision, good luck...

Sorry to hear as well. I feel like most car guys dream of fixing up an old car, but it's usually time and money that get in the way. Good luck with whatever you choose. Now we know where the flat bottom steering wheel came from!

Ran across this post today and thought of you and your late FIL. Not exactly the same vehicle, but might be useful as a frame of reference.

Dude sorry about your FIL passing. I know you guys had the car connection, so I can see the emotional attachment to the car, but like others have said, it's probably not worth the investment, but then again 99.9% of the cars out there aren't either. Cars are emotional purchases and so are restorations or even just getting a car road worthy. As a 4 door mid-60s Chrysler product, as amazing as the jet-era styling is and appreciated, they don't have very much value, especially a 4 door, but damn, that jet-era styling is so awesome. Look at that steering wheel, dash and tail lights! Love it!

Yeah...its just so unique. Maybe not as desirable as cadillacs or lincolns of the same era...but I feel like this definitely has stand out style. I was just reading OG reviews from car mags from 1962 and this car was LOVED by everyone. Interesting its such a forget me vehicle these days. Its also amazing to know the LeBaron nameplate was once a respected high end nameplate. LeBarons were trash when I was a kid But the LeBaron was the top trim level and thats what this is.

wow... hated to hear about your FIL man!

old cars are amazing to me man... love the smell, the feel, the solidness, the weight...
they are a bear to work on... BUT... if you find a network of others who share your passion, you can have it fixed over time... i still have 64 Impala and 67 Malibu parts in a box in my garage
one key: store it correctly or it will die a slow painful death.
I used to own a 1964 impala SS and used it as a DD back in the late 80's so I can tell you they can do it... used to take it on road trips... if its not really broken, it will still run... not like our Porsche that needed a front suspension sensor reset and sat at Porsche of Houston for 3 days...LOL
brakes... 4 drums in good condition still stop you well , but you cannot got o fast either... if you decided to hot-rod it, then i would say discs in the front would be mandatory ... but that's IMVHO
lets us know what you are gonna do... maybe create a separate thread for updates?
later,
Rick
