***A guy wants to trade my Yellow M3 for his Estriol Blue M3, what do you think? ***

Theres this guy here who wants to trade me for my car. Tell me if its worth it. I still don't know, I love my Yellow, very hard to find in such good condition. Heres the stuff on my car:

'98 M3
Dakar Yellow
28.5k miles

black interior
standard BMW steering wheel
heated seats
no HK upgrade

His car:

'99 M3
Estriol Blue
20k miles
Harmon Kardon upgrade
3 spoke ///M steering wheel
No heated seats
35% tint all around
gray interior (very good condition though)

What do you guys think? Mainly its more of a 'Color for Options' trade-off. I still don't know if I want a blue one over the Yellow one Help!

oooh, that's a tough one. Blue is my favorite color, but Yellow looks so freakin' sweet on an M3. Not only that, Yellow is a little more rare then blue. Honestly, I think your best bet is to keep your car. You don't know what you're getting into with the other car, but with yours, you know how you treat it, so you can know what to expect.....

You don't know what he's done to his car or how he treated it. I wouldn't do it.

I would definitly get his car checked out by the dealer first. Its still under warranty and get everything checked out. He lives about 40 min. away from me so its not hard to get it checked out.

But as you said, that yellow is a rare color for the M3. So

Why would you even think about doing that?

Unless you have a thing for the Estoril Blue.

The 99 Steering Wheel is much nicer, though.

Do you have the Illuminated shift knob on your 98? I think some did and some didn't in 98.

How about the rear seat headrests? Got those?

For me, I don't like the Yellow so it is a no brainer. The Blue is very awesome + you get better options and a year newer car. In the long run the Year newer will greatly effect the value later when you sell it.

YELLOW IS AN AWESOME COLOR, especially on Bimmers. Keep it and it is too much of hassle to do the trade.

TRADE IT! LOWER MILES! Fuck the heated seats, big baby!

Harmon kardon upgrade is reason enough to trade. A stock system in an M3 sucks.

His car is newer, and less miles, however you dont know what has happened to it. And you need heated seats in Chicago, its gets f-ing cold up there I hear. I would not do it.

As for the heated seats, I don't care (this car isn't driven in the winter).

As for how it drives, I've driven this car this weekend after the Acura meet. It rides very well and checked out everything, very nice and clean!

I'm getting mixed comments here. Some would trade, some wouldn't. I love my Yellow color, but don't know if I want to trade it in for just the options plus lower mileage and newer model.

Tom2:

Yes I do have the lighted ///M shiftknob. I love that new steering wheel, its smaller than the regular one (makes it feel more sportier).

He said hes been trying to find a Yellow one in mint condition like mine for a year. He said he keeps finding '95s for sale which are yellow, but nothing newer. So much to think about such little time!

BTW. Took me 6 months of hard looking to find the Yellow and now I've had this car for about 10 months or so.

I have to post again just to point out that it looks like you answered your own question.... if he's been looking for over a year to find one of these, and it took you 6 months of hard looking, obviously there's a value to be had in a newer then 1995 Yellow M3 in near mint condition. Plus, like I said before, yellow on M3's are awesome. Add that to the fact that they seem so rare, and I think you have a keeper....

there arent too many cars that can sport the yellow color and still look so sweet. I would keep it in a heartbeat. Besides he might have driven the shit out of it and it could be hard to detect now. I would stick with yours.

I agree. I mean it's just a newer version of your car, if all else fails you could always get a paint job or something. I prefer the blue anyway, but that's just me.

I'm straddling the fence with my opinion. It doesn't sound like you're too worried about him possibly driving the car hard. If you can verify that it's never been in an accident or anything, then go for it. All things being equal, his car is a better value due to the mileage and year. The X-factor is, how has it been treated?

Personally I'd be a bit leary if the guy's been trying to unload it for so long. Seems kind of extreme for you to trade the hig-performance car you know for a used high-performance car that may have been driven hard. Hell, it's an M3, you know he's pushed it at least a few times.

Do what you think is right. You're the one that has to live with your decision, not us.

Good luck. BTW - The yellow is sweet!!

I think that guy should be more worried about my car I've pushed it EVERY time! No wonder I don't have a clutch left after only 28.5k miles. The car was in an accident, however it was fixed very nicely (you can't even tell it was in an accident). I will be taking it to a buddy of mine at the local BMW dealership and they are going to inspect it for any frame damage or other damage. He told me that he'll look at the whole car and turn it inside out to make sure I'm getting a good deal.

BTW, since its been in an accident, I have this guy paying ME!!! $2000 along with his car! I keep the M Contour rims, the Euro lights and get to switch the cd-changer (I like mine better ). What do you think if my buddy approves it at the dealership?

EDIT: Also, another thing, after speaking to my friend at the dealership, he said he's seen VERY FEW M3s with NO bodywork, so its not a big deal if the car drives and is in other words perfect shape.
