Could you rephrase that? I keep dying of boredom before I finish.

Me? 13-15 city and freeway (read "stop-and-go" here). I was at 21 on my last road trip out of town. Not bad for 10 cylinders and 500HP IMO.

Sure. I want a vagina mobile. Not especially appealing on the outside, but once you get in, its not too bad. And once you get going, provides a very exciting experience. That to me is a TL SH-AWD.

I can translate it too if you'd like.

Since a 2G CTS-S is over $40k, I'd think I go with 07 B7 Alpina....500HP/516 ft lbs tq (supercharged). There is 1 on Ebay for under $40...lol.

Buy early model, high mileage NSX and then use the rest of the money to make it a beast.
Pristine E28 M5 or E30 M3

If you line up every 5 series next to each other....the E60 sticks out like sore thumb and doesn't not fit into the aesthetic evolution of the car. Remove the car from the line up and balance is restored.

I feel the EXACT same way about the 4th gen Prelude (and Im a big prelude fan, former 3rd gen owner.)

The point of the thread wasn't to recommend ME cars, I'd just like to know which cars YOU would get with a 40k budget and why.

But answering my own question: I really dont know. I cross shop different cars from different classes. Here are my choices:

Volvo S60:

Likes:
Convenient safety features (it has cameras in the front that can look around cars if you're coming out of a driveway without a clear view of traffic)

Safety features: auto stopping under 20 mph (i've gotten into 2 minor accidents cause I wasn't paying attention in the parking lot).

Luxury features: Rear headrest comes down with a button, high res navi screen w/ good graphics, power folding mirrors,

Exterior Design: I like the look, but it doesn't look as good as a 2012 TL (whatever, I love the exterior design). LED tail lights and on the front accent. And LOVE the tail light design. Looks like a GS350 from the front.

Interior: Love the "waterfall" design of the center console.

Luxury Ride: Its quiet, its smooth, comfortable seats, rear AC is on the sides and not in the center.

Dislikes:
Doesn't look as good as a TL

Weird "bump" in the headliner that houses the interior lights. Its so pronounced that it looks out of place. Its also extremely cheap because you can actually press it in and it will deform like cheap cardboard. Weird.

Does not have power steering column with power tilt and telescopic steering wheel. My 1998 Maxima had this!

I was going to do the same for all the cars Im cross shopping but that would take forever. I'm also cross shopping the G37 coupe, 2012 TL, Volvo XC60, VW GTI, IS350, TSX and some others I can't remember. The main players are G37 Couple, '12 TL and S60.

I remember when the E60 came out I hated it too, and thought the E39's were some of the best looking BMWs of all time. Weird thing for me is I always hated the E60, but now that it's gone, I kinda miss it. I still don't really like the basic 528, but my dad bought a 530ti, and my boss had a 550 with the M kit, and both of them I started to really appreciate. To me the new one looks so plain in comparison that it makes me miss the E60's.

As for the original question:
I really want like a 97' NSX Targa, but for one I haven't seen one for sale in hawaii, and I think my practical side might get in the way.
Other cars I've thought about buying:
E46 M3 Convertible
E90 335 coupe
Elise
S2000
Boxster

I scrolled through the responses again... I didn't see anyone mention a 2009 CTS-V anywhere (unless I missed it). All that was mentioned was a pre-owned CTS-V, and there are certainly older ones available for under $40k.

Don't get me wrong, it's really no skin off my nose if someone isn't a fan of the E60 design; there are plenty of people who feel that way. I just thought your original description was more applicable to a Pontiac Aztek (which is almost universally disliked).

DIZAZNDOOD320, was right about post #2. I would definitely buy an Aztek with my $40k.

I totally forgot about the Golf-R. The Regal GS looks like it's going to be a nice car too. B7 Audi S4s are very nice cars and I think you can still find very low mileage 2008s around.

But if I was going to get a 4-door car and couldn't spend more than $40k on it and I had to buy something RIGHT NOW, I'd have to take a long look at BMW 335s (i or xi). Though my heart is with Audi

Yes, if for no other reason than that car didn't deserve to have all that money spent on it.

I've always been a fan of Mitsubishi Evo's... Not luxury or a good DD by any means, but fun to drive and very stylish.

If you're looking for a daily drive, I prefer the IS250 AWD

All manual

G8 GXP
new 5.0 - contingent on transmission condition. IMO I think it's an issue that's there from the start, or not at all.
335i - also depends on HPFP
Elise
Viper

Though I admit I can see myself in a 2012+ TL SH-AWD 6MT in the future. It has grown on me considerably, though I still hate the 2009-11 models. I prefer to buy used, and it's highly doubtful that I'm gonna own a German car out of warranty. Add on top of that my stubbornness to work on my own cars if possible and my lack of knowledge and willpower to diagnose electrical issues....

I work a block away from an Acura dealership, so the 2012 has grown on me considerably.

Well this is where I was last year. My budget was 40k. I ended up with my G sedan. I needed a four door. I wanted RWD and sporty characteristics. I wanted the safety and reliability of a new/newer car.

I feel as though my G covers the sporty aspect of my needs with being practical enough to live with on a daily basis and does not attract any unwanted attention. It drives like a hybrid of my RSX-S and TL. So I thoroughly enjoy this car.

When it comes time to replace this car a CTS-V and E63 are at the top of my list. Probably CPO'd since buying new wouldn't make sense for me unless I was making 150K+ per year.

You honestly think for $40,000 the best new car on the road, in any category, is an Acura TL?

I'd rather have....
Acura TSX
Audi A5
Audi Q5
Chevy Tahoe
Dodge Challenger SRT8
Ford F150 King Ranch
Ford Mustang Boss 302
Lexus IS350
Nissan 370Z
Subaru WRX STI

For what I want in a car, yes. For what others may want or need, probably not.

G37 would be a good one to add to that list.

A house.

Perhaps a used M3 or a slightly used or new S4. A used CTS-V would be nice too.
