Thumbs down $155 for this??!!

I have a little bit of road rash on one of my rims. It was bound to happen sooner or later. In my last car when I had road rash, I was charged no more than $100 and the damage was much worse than this.

It is about a two inch scrape on the edge of the rim, and I was just quoted $155 to fix this. I dunno, seems like a rip off and way too high in my opinion.

Thoughts?

Get another quote.

There was a mobile wheel guy who fixed up one of my rims for $45 on my G after my wife drove it for the first time ever!

He sanded it down, resprayed the area with a few coats, and a year later, still looks perfectly acceptable.

Thanks, Glad I'm not the only one that thinks $155 is ridiculous. The last damage I had on my other wheel a few years ago was way worse than this, even a part of the rim was gouged out and it was still only $100 to fix.

I was expecting $100 at the absolute most for this minor damage.

Is the $155 for spot repair or refinishing the whole rim?

$155 for spot rim = too high.

$155 for stripping the whole rim, fixing the rash and then powder coating the whole rim = fair price.

As extreme as the second variant of the service sounds, most repair places do that instead of spot repair.

^ That's a very good point. I'm assuming the OP meant a spot repair from the get go.

But yes to refinish the rim completely $155 isn't horrible, maybe a bit on the high side.

Yes I was talking about a spot repair; doing the whole wheel seems like overkill.

The people that quoted me the $155 were awrs wheel repair.

Go to a dealership and find out who their guy is.

They usually charge 50-100

For a whole wheel refinish that would be a good price. If its just a spot repair (which it sounds as though it is) then that is a little high for that little thing.

I found a guy local to me that does excellent work for very reasonable prices. He fixed my RH C2 3 piece which i bent on a huge pot hole in just a few hours for just 145 cash. The wheel is perfectly round and has no sign of ever being bent.

I'd fix it myself. Very easy to do.
