So I understand the reason you ordered two different offsets, and I understand that it is an extremely minimal difference - 1mm.

However, what I do not understand is why there is such a "non-minimal" difference in the lip sizes? How can a little 1mm difference in offset account for an inch difference in lips?

You say that it will be on two different sides so the average person won't notice (true I guess), but what about the person directly behind the car? Are they going to be seeing one rear wheel sticking out further than the other because of the extra lip?

I think that's a question you should ask Mackin Industries/Rays Engineering.

I asked two questions...

And the person that ordered the wheels specifically that way should be able to answer them as well.

I just don't get why someone would order wheels this sick and this expensive and have them specifically made lopsided. I can see accounting for the 1-2mm offset difference - no one will ever notice that just looking at the wheels; and that wouldn't (and hasn't) even enter my mind when considering buying them. It's just the lip difference that's killin' it.

Maybe the buyer didn't know the lips would have that much of a difference? And when he saw them in person he decided he didn't like it?
