$100 plus perks for your time...

I want to lower my 2002 TL-S and maybe put some 18's on it. The problem is that I don't know if the slope of my driveway will cause me any grief, plus I would like to really know how the ride will feel.

Here is what I want:

You must have a 2002 TL-S.
It must have lowering springs and/or 18 inch wheels.
You must let me drive the vehicle.

I understand your time is valuable and you have invested your time, money and effort into your vehicle. So, here is what you get:

$100 cash.
A tank of Union 76 High Performance 91 Octane Gasoline.
A hand wax at my car wash.

I live in Woodland Hills 91367
My car wash is in Canoga Park 91303
My schedule is flexible, so this offer is good any day of the week. Just prepare to give me about an hour and a half of your time...

You may respond to this post or email me:

washnwax@aol.com

Thank you,
Jeff

And you expect me to let you test scrape my 2002 baby on your PA driveway? I don think so.

And after I scrape your car I am going to offer your body as a sacrifice to the car gods

Actually, the problem is not scraping the front of the vehicle. The potential problem lies with the underside of the vehicle rubbing because the driveway goes up then down.

My 1999 Chrysler 300M was lowered and just made it. My 2001 Chevy Silverado has been lowered 2/4 and it scrapes a cross bar but doesn't hit anything functional.

I just want to be sure:p

The only difference is the amount of cash and your ride will not feel any remorse...

curious...how do you drive up driveways???

you know you will need to take a very shape approach angle where one wheel touches and then the other...you do not go head on with both wheels!

i would consider this request but i am afraid the kit is gonna really get scratched.

I would not put on the kit for that reason. I would definitely scrape the front if it had the kit. I don't think I explained the driveway correctly. I live in a townhouse with underground parking. When you enter the driveway, it is a normal slope up, but then you go down into the structure.

Imagine that your car is a see saw. The potential scrape is under the MIDDLE of the car. I will try to post a picture to show you guys the problem.

OK, I'm in the same scenario as you wash and wax. My apartment garage is a steep angle going down to the garage. One light grade from sidewalk and a steep one at the garage door into the building. I have looked at my clearance driving through in a angle and there's a good 2+" right buy the center resonator(the part that comes into vulnerability the most).

Now Mr Hyde helped me out and attempted to go through with his TL-S with OEM kit & Comptech springs. He had to go very slow to prevent the chin from scraping at the light descent. Now the resonator just touches the crest at the steep part , we backed it out then.

I thought about still doing it but now I'm not sure about it being a good idea let alone a P.I.T.A.

Curious if taking the resonator off is worth the removle (prob. req welding), hassle with warranty, noise increase , etc, is worth it. Or just compromise with the H&R OEM's..

The Driveway

Here's what the driveway looks like with my Chevy Silverado sitting right in the middle. The truck has been lowered 2/4.

wash n wax: nice truck I had a 94 S-10 ext cab, blk ,dropped, rims, etc.
park your truck on flat ground and measure the clearance from underneath the truck to the ground. maybe someone can measure measure the same on their TL. thats if you cant get anyone to go down there.
But i think from that pic your def gonna rub.

Oh that is nothing! Give me $50 for the advice? First off, if you plus size your tires, having somebody with 18" rims isn't going to make that much of a difference, it's all in the drop.

My car used to be dropped like 3" and I could make it over that easily- driving at an angle that is. The only problem I forsee is if there are other cars coming out. IN that case just wait then drive at an angle. You will come across parking lots that are worse than that eventually, and you will have to drive at an angle.

That is the most difficult situation. Most people don't understand that I need to take it at an angle. The think they are being polite to me by letting my go, but I need them to get out of my way so that I can have the whole driveway!

I've got a 2001 w/Comptech springs and 18s, and was considering letting you try my car since I'm not too worried about the front scraping. But from the looks of your driveway, I'd be nervous about scraping the middle of the car.

Let us know how the experiment worked.

Your concerns are absolutely right. The middle of the car is the potential problem. The good news is that our experiment was a success. It seems that like most vehicles, the catalytic converter is the low spot in the middle of the car. If not careful and going in straight with a lowered vehicle, you will absolutely scrape the cat going in.

Fortunately if you exercise caution and go in at an angle, the scraping is avoidable.

Now to order those springs...
