I worked out a deal with a guy on CL for his Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8. I have had my eyes set on either this lens or the 24-70 for a while. I rented both and liked the 17-55 a little more.

Now, deciding on whether I should sell some of my lenses to recoup some of that money for the newer lens. I don't have any great glass but have gotten by. I have the 18-105 kit lens that I was thinking about keeping for when I want a little more reach. I also have the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 and the Sigma 50mm f/2.8 Macro. I love both of these lenses as they have produced some stunning pictures, but I wonder how much I will use them with the 17-55 being in the arsenal. The 50mm is of course a macro lenses and I do like macro photography but don't find myself using it that much for this. It may be worth keeping though for those times I find that I may want to shoot macro. What purpose does the 35mm have now? The only reason to not sell is I would not get very much for it and not sure I want to go through the hassle of selling for so little money. The only other lens I have is a Tamron 70-300 cheapy that I will keep until I can afford a better long zoom.

I wouldn't sell anything, at least right now. Until you know how you will work the 17-55 in to your set up. The 35mm 1.8 is a fast lens, I wouldn't get rid of it, if you need to shot in really low light.

The 35 1.8G has little time on my camera, but there are times when this lens is needed(I mainly use my Tamron 28-75 f2.8 or Sigma 10-20 f3.5). The 35mm is fast, takes sharp images, and only $200 new.

I'm looking to get the Nikon 17-55 too.
