When is canon rebate starting this year?

So, I'm planning on buying 40D and 24-70mm f/2.8 L this year. Many things are kind of telling me to sort of wait. First one is the canon rebate. So, when is it gonna start this year? My friend was telling me that canon would probably put 40D on the list for rebate items because of Nikon's new D300.
Another thing is 24-70 would probably come out with newer model next year with IS. Anyone else heard this rumor?

You're not going to get a rebate on the newest camera. Canon has started their rebates for the last two years in the middle of October, about the 15 or 16th.

I know about the newest camera and the rebate. But canon has to try hard to get their sales if they are going against D300

The D300 is $500 more, why would Canon need to start rebates for the 40D, when it's flying off the shelves and the D300 won't be out for another two months?

I'd say the 5D and the XTi, plus a bunch of lenses and flashes.

i bought 40D and i'm gonna wait for 17-55 IS to be on the rebate list this year...
24-70 is not wide enough for the crop body.. and I just couldn't resist on the IS...
