It was like that.
I drove past it...then backed up. lol
It's right in front of a busy parking garage in financial district.
I want to go back with a better camera.
I'm in front of one garage that says Public Parking.
But the lettering is really fancy cursive italic neon lettering...looks kind of gangster.
There is one right next to it to that says Private.
It's a single garage.
I want to go back and take a shot right in front of it.
The pics I posted are the originals.
No editing.
Seriously though...my camera doesn't do it justice because the color is soo brilliant.
Just casted this amazing glow down on the car.

1) Correct. That was a hard shot to get.
2) Battery Street @ Pine I think.
3) Embarcadero...pretty close to Howard.
4) Dead end of Market Street. (One Market)

Most of the places I would imagine you would have to go really late.
I only had luck at around 3:30 - 4am
After the bars closed and most people were home already.
Good luck.

Yeah I've taken shots there already.
Been all over the island.
Last I went was about 2 months ago.
My buddies and I are on the hunt for more bridge shots.
I want something that has a lot of light and bridge detail.
It's always so damn foggy though.
Also...too many people around.

so that was all Adobe Lightroom, i pulled down the exposure, bumped up the blacks and the contrast and also applied some noise reduction. And with the 1st pic I played a little with the white balance, but as jupiter said, white balance changes aren't very easy shooting in jpeg.
you mentioned you had PS CS4, but I'd look into Lightroom for making changes like this.

Hopefully I can figure out how you fixed those two images.

Haha...currently downloading some tutorials and I got some presets.
Do you know...
Do I have to install presets in a certain folder like plug-ins?
It's kind of slow with it's "flash" type programming...at least on my Viao.

I actually really like #3 and think the grainy look adds to the image. #2 is an amazing composition too.
Don't beat yourself up too much over your image quality. Once upon a time everybody shot film and shots like you showed were the norm. I have a friend that shoot almost exclusively film and looking at her images I am coming to the realization that getting all worked up over IQ distracts me from composition.

But I'm bothered with poor image quality.
For certain pics "noise" is great if that's the desired effect.
I really wasn't trying for that here.
Thanks! I think so too.
You've got a really good eye. The equipment can be upgraded over time a lot easier than developing a style and composition that works.
As Jup mentioned, just get a decent P&S with manual controls. But be careful, the photography bug is dangerous!

The camera's age is not as big an issue as the initial market segment it was meant for.
I highly recommend a Sony DSC-F717 as a quality point and shoot on a budget. You could probably get one for around $50. I own a lot of the Sony F-series cameras because I think they're awesome.
They are overlooked now because of every camera (including cell phones) sporting over 10 megapixels, but megapixels aren't everything. The F series up to the F828 had large pixels on a decent sized sensor, which means low noise. They had excellent lenses and full manual controls.
