Waterproof (resistant) cameras

I am looking to get a water/shock proof camera to carry around in my jersey pocket while cycling.

I have read the reviews and am leaning to the Panasonic Lumix TS10 when it comes out later this month.

Anyone have any other cameras that they could recommend

Yes but they didn't rank as highly except the Canon, but that is too large to fit in a jersey pocket

I've never liked the little square bodied cameras, they have too small of a lens, they don't let in a lot of light.

This quote adds it up some. Then again will be waiting until Sept for the Panny.

The majority of these cameras have specifications that would have been impressive two years go, but the latest generation of compact cameras put these to shame. The Panasonic and latest Pentax are the only cameras to offer the wide-angle lenses and 30fps HD video that you'd expect of a contemporary compact. Then again, the current generation of compact cameras would stop working if you drop them in a bathtub.

I really don't either, but I need a water/shock proof camera for cycling before I go to France next year.

What is the model of the Pentax that is waterproof.

By that time they'll be a whole new release from all of them. I guess that would be the one's listed on that chart, the Pentax Optio W60 and W80.

Nice Sarlacc

But this is also a camera that I am going to let my mother have when I don't need it.

I want to get a waterproof camera for an upcoming trip.

The choices are Pentax W90 or the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 or the Panny TS2

All have relatively similar specs, except for the Pentax which doesn't have IS and is only 12.1MP.

I'm not so much concerned about the sub par image quality as they are all weather cameras and that is to be expected. The biggest difference is pricing.

Any particular reason you would choose one over the other?

My trip isn't until the end of Dec....will there be any newer models released before then?

I've had an Oly 770SW for a few years now and can only speak for it.

We have taken it everywhere! From trips to the beach here in Florida to vacation in Vermont for Christmas, many waterpark visits at Disney and around the pool at the house. I've let the kids use it along with any one else who wanted to use without fear. This camera hasn't failed in it's intended purpose and that is to be tough, watertight, and withstand nature's elements.

It takes good pictures with very good color reproduction, but falls off in low light photos with unacceptable noise ( improvements may have been made in that respect). Mine has a Oly battery only option, which I don't like, and won't accept AA's. That said, I really love this camera for what it is able to do and wouldn't hesitate to replace it should it ever fail.

Bottom line.....it's built like a tank!

I got the Panny TS2 and am loving it, it is perfect for what I needed it for.

And my cat has already knocked it off the kitchen table and it just keeps going.

The panny is on sale for $260 on amazon. I may just have to pick it up. How's the battery life?

I've got a 1030SW and would say about the same. I have taken it on the boat, swimming, climbing, biking, etc. Its built like a tank. With that comes a bit of extra weight, but its to be expected. It does fall off at low light with some pretty bad noise, but other than that it does pretty good. There are several picture modes including a great self portrait mode. The wide angle lens is decent. It does take an Olympus battery but I've found battery life to be pretty good. It also takes the XD cards which can be a bit obscure and expensive. It comes with an adapter for Micro SD, but you apparently lose some functionality if you use them.

I found video quality sub par compared to older my Canon S5is. Audio quality is pure crap, but again that's compared to the Canon.

Its got some other neat features. When its turned off one of the buttons on the back turns on the clock on the LCD screen. Its also got a pretty bright LED on the front for macro shot illumination. Also doubles as a flashlight. Its got an alarm clock. Makes a great camera for camping.
