UTLA Protest

The Teachers Union had a big protest downtown today...and since the wife is a teacher I tagged along for support, and more importantly photo ops.

Nice pics, and it's unfortunate that schools can't get the proper funding!

Its not just the lack of proper funding, its the state wants to try and pull stuff such as taking away their health care.

Hmm.. imagine if we spent $700 billion on education instead of bailing out banks that normally would/should fail..

It's happening everywhere, just as bad as some are of on their own. The States and Cities are having a hard time as well.

Are they trying to take their health care or just have them start paying for part of it?

take health if I'm right. I think LAUSD is the only district where health is provided for them.

They always want to cut arts programs, after school programs, etc etc etc.

Still waiting to see what kind of cuts they'll propose in my wife's school district.

And as for health care costs, many districts cover the cost of the lowest (HMO) coverage for a whole family. If you want PPO or something else, you have to pay the difference.

I really like the last image in the set of the kids. The simple fact of the kids being present at the protest and and the signs they're holding adds poignancy to the event. As an added bonus, the kids themselves are covering a range from being totally involved in the event on the left to "There's a guy with a camera. I'd better smile." on the right.
