Used camera equipment

My father is wanting to get into photography a little more than P&S. But, he doesn't know what he wants. I was thinking maybe a used body or something.

Where would you go to buy used camera equipment?

You can check out the buy and sell boards at http://photography-on-the.net/forum/ and http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/ you can also check your local craigslist and www.keh.com

keh is the only one listed that is an actually company, out of Atlanta and web based only. I have had sucess with buying and selling on the other three that I listed, but when it comes to buying, you have got to use your head. It it sounds to good, then it's not. With that said the two camera forums I listed are pretty good, just deal with people who have been members of the site for while, plus you can check feedback for activity they have done with each site.

Good Luck

Ask questions they're are plenty here to help.

I am also in the market.....I found a Xti for $400 (base only)....the guy is also selling a Sigma 18-200mm for $300. Any idea of the lens quality on this one? He said he would sell me the (non stabilized, i think) kit lens for $50, which seems to me like kind of a waste....but if I don't get the kit lens, and I don't get the one he is selling, I will need a good quality but versitle lens....any thoughts?

You can rent lenses and try them out for a few weeks.

Try http://www.rentglass.com/ if you decide to go with a Nikon or Canon. There's other sites, but this is the only one I've used so far.

It's better than purchasing glass based on reviews and hear-say. I've rented a couple zoom lenses from them.

Thanks for the links. I had tried searching craigslist locally with no luck. I hadn't thought about the other forums (I don't get over there often).

In regards to the lens rental, I used rentglass.com about 3 weeks ago and fell in love with a 70-200mm 2.8 IS

I've tried to convince my dad to buy new (anything better than my XT). But, no luck yet.

I buy most of my used camera gear from www.fredmiranda.com

I bought my 1D on ebay and that was fine, but sold it on fredmiranda. I bought my 1D MKII from fredmiranda and had very good luck.
