Trip to Disney next month
My daughter's high school band is participating in a competition at Disney World in FL next month. The venue will be either the Indiana Jones attraction or the American Idol theater in Hollywood Studios. My lenses aren't really cracked up for indoor use (Canon 28-135 f/3.5-4.5, 50 f/1.4 and 100-400 f/3.5-5.6) so I am thinking about renting. For those of you that have been in similar situations what do you find useful for these kinds of events? I am not looking to lug around a flash and/or tripod, not even sure they would be allowed.
Right now I am thinking of getting the Canon 10-22, 24-70 f/2.8 and the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II. Do I need all three or can I chop that down a little? The 10 day rental, insured with shipping, is $338 for all three.
Thanks

We were at Disney World in FL last March and went to the American Idol theater while there. I used my Nikkor 70-210 f/4-5.6 and got pretty sharp shots from where we were sitting in the audience.

Don't bring too much gear with you because you'll regret having to lug it around the park all day. You really only need something like a 17-55 and a 70-200 to cover it. 200mm should be enough for your theater photos too.

I'll be chaperoning high school kids in the parks for 4 days. The performances are all on one day, so I don't need to carry it all every day. I figure once the performances are done the 24-70 would be the walk-around lens to capture candids of the kids as I come across them. We try to get one group shot (100+ kids) so I thought the 10-22 would be good for that, but not sure it is worth $70 bucks for essentially one picture.
Do you think the 17-55 would be better than the 24-70?

You could take three to four shots of the group and then merge them, a little pano.
For walk around, I'd go 24-105, it'll give you more reach w/o have to switch to 70-200 unless you really need to.
