Testing out my New Rig

Here is a quick test shot I did yesterday after getting most of my rig pieces. First and probably worst rig shot ever. LOL. I do like the composition though. I shot this in harsh sun, no filters at all.... obviously super over exposed. I'll update this thread with progress once my ND filters come in. I didn't bother to chop out the rig since it's kinda pointless.

haha.. Yeah, I wasn't sure how well the suction cups would hold, so I picked the RL in case something happened. I will update this thread with more updates and try another test shoot @ night in case my filters take awhile to get in. If any other "riggers" have any feedback or suggestions, please chime in!

I think everything should run close to $300. Here is my list, you can price it out:

-Six 2" od .125 wall (4' length) aluminum poles (I'm only using 4 of them)
-Pins inserted in drilled holes
-Three Manfrotto Super Clamps
-Two Manfrotto Avenger F1000 Suction Cups
-One Manfrotto Magic Arm

any idea what top speed you hit? it looks like you're on a neighborhood street, so i would guess nothing faster than 30mph...

I heard that between 5-10mph is the best way to do rig shot... nothing faster than that.

yeah 5-10 mph
if you go any faster than 10 mph you'll probably get intense shaking.

you can get some funky pictures when you play around with exposure, like jeff (lcrazyaznl) did this rig shot for me and it came out pretty damn cool.

started the shot inside in a parking garage and turned and moved for a little bit and the sunlight hit the car and this was how the photo came out. and its my favorite picture of the car.

looks good synth

what filters are you gettingo

037 filmed this for me at the last acura meet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2F3ANYAxC0

Sometimes I have to hold down the pole cuz of the car jerks if its stick.

The evo x has such a agressive clutch we needed to rotate the wheels bit by bit to get the blur.

I also rigged my poles to break down and use a tie down to lock them together.

quick question...what is up with the first shot regarding the sun flare? it looks as if it suddenly peaks out from underneath the clouds, yet the tree in the background appears on top of the clouds....does that make sense? ...hell, maybe it's just me...

and 2nd shot FTW...

I would love to setup some rig shots. My bro-in-law's dealer picked up an '07 Lamborghini Gallardo. The only problem is he wont let me within 200 yards of the car with a suction cup.

Thanks guys.... at one point one suction cup popped out when I shot this car today, luckily I was there to catch it! Just the surface I placed it on was a bit uneven, so I moved it and things were fine after that. I highly recommend an assistant to whoever attempts these!

every 5 mins i check the suction cups haha... better safe than sorry.

sometimes they don't get a good hold if the cups are dirty.

how are you guys cutting out the boom in these pics so well? I have trouble chopping out random artifacts, let alone whole objects!

Photoshop CS5 content aware filter?

Synth these are crazy! I would love to meet up and check out your setup and shots. I don't know if I'll ever dabble in this kind of photography since I don't have the gear, but it answers so many of my questions on how do the car mags get shots like this perfect all the time!

My process varies. But I'm getting better with more practice. On the nsx rig shot, it was pretty easy to chop out the rig. Combination of cloning, patch tool, etc. On the GTR shoot I used content aware, and it worked AWESOME. Content Aware is hit or miss.
