Question Subscribe to any photography magazines?

Have subscribed to PhotoLife and Popular Photography & Imaging for three years now. Will sometimes pick up a random issue of other mags if I see something interesting on the shelves.

Do you subscribe to any photography magazines? What do you think of 'em?

I just get Outdoor Photographer.

http://www.outdoorphotographer.com/

It's pretty far from being rich in gooey how-to details or product reviews. I do, however, find it very VERY inspirational. The work that they have in the magazine is top notch. What I really like though is that most of the articles and columns deal with the thought and motivation that went into making the images and not just "...I used blah blah equipment at blah blah settings." Oh, and as far a subscriptions go, it's pretty cheap too.

Of course after the first 15 minutes of looking through each issue I get pissed as hell when it's reinforced yet again how I live in one of the most boring parts of the continent for landscape work.

I get Pop Photo from the gym I belong to...they put put the new issues of various mags every month for members. A lot of people don't like that mag, but I've learned a lot of good stuff in there, especially PS stuff.

I like Outdoor Photog, too, and some of the artier pubs. All the mags are good places to get ideas.

paper publications are pretty worthless imo.
that information plus a plethora of other non-biased reviews
are easily found online minus the 9billion pages of advertisements from bait and hook shops running out of bk and queens.

the few times i do purchase a mag is when a friend gets his work published. most of the time those are non-photog related..usually si, maxim, mens health, snowboarder, and so on..

then again, i guess you cant beat free, whether it's good or not

Opened from the Dead to Get Some More Opinions

I was looking at some magazines to subscribe to on amazon.com. The most popular are Shutterbug, America Photo and Popular Photography. I was looking at Popular Photography at the local camera store, there were a lot of ads. Didn't have time to really look at it, it was the counter copy. I left there forgetting to get batteries and cleaning wipes.

A couple comments were...

Popular Photo plays to much to their advertisers but is getting better.

America Photo, the magazine has dumb itself down. Used to be good for technics.

Shutterbug, only three comments nothing bad.

I just got my first issue of Rangefinder. I haven't finished reading it, but have enjoyed the articles where they interview the photographers. Sometimes they ask the photographer what thought went into making some of the photos the put in the magazine. It is also interesting to hear how they were introduced into photography.

I have skimmed through the parts I haven't read yet and there is one or two photoshop tutorials. Don't think this magazine is really geared toward techniques or equipment, rather to get an insight into photographers. Overall, I'm pleased with the magazine so far.

Just looked at the prices for Popular Photography and Imaging and Shutterbug, the prices are low. At ~$15 for 12 issues, i'll probably subscribe to one, if not both. Good thread.

Funny this thread should resurface. I have subscriptions for both Lenswork and Nature Photographer magazines sitting on my counter right now ready to drop in the mail.

Charging.....Zap.....it's ALIVE!!!!

Have you ladies and gentlemen ever considered the magazine Digital Photography? N/M I just checked and its 79pounds a year.

I think i'm going to subscribe to pop photo it's only $22 for 2 years. Any other recommendations? The more tutorials and technique advice in the mag the better, that's mainly what i'm looking for.

Rangefinder and it's free. I just got my first issue this weekend. It's a pretty good size, and for being free, it seems to have less ads than the one's I pay for.
