Love the subject matter and composition on most of the pics. Are these PP'ed or straight outta the camera? A few of the pics could benefit from some brightness/contrast adjustment, imo.

they have been PP'ed a little. They were all taken RAW and I was playing with cuves (my first real attempt). looking at them again the rocking chairs and the last light pic need some work.

nope...but, i have played with sharpening since these...

i am waiting for ARC 3.7 to come out (& support the d40) so i dont have to use the crappy nikon picture project raw converter.

i sometimes think my kit lens is a bad copy cause i never seem to get pictures as sharp as other peoples in the canon photography site that didnt use any pp

Well those look really sharp! Nice cam. I checked one out the other day, I was very impressed by its compact size! And if those are the pics it takes, well damn. I think we have ourselves the best small form-factor camera. Now I haven't even come close to seeing all the other SLR's out there, but the D40 has to be one of the smallest ones.

thanks, it definitely can get the job done. those were all tripod shots, apparently that's how you get 'tack-sharp'

Maybe the best tool any photographer can invest in outside of good glass.

It's looking good. I like the lighting, and that you're playing with depth of field. Looks like a cool place - is that where you live? I wish it would snow here...

played around with it a little more and did a high contrast b&w
