Some help with tripods please..

I'm looking to buy a decent tripod for my girlfriend that's light, good quality, and not crazy expensive. She has a Nikon D80 DSLR so it has to be compatible with that. I'm looking to spend $100-150. Can I get some suggestions please and websites to buy it from?

If she going to want to carry this with her, she's going to need something light. And that's going to cost of few more dollars than you may want to spend. IIRC you have a really good camera shop in Seattle, I just can't remember the name. Take a look at tripods there if you can. I've done some looking at www.bhphoto.com and www.adorama.com (most here are out of stock), but really can't suggest something for you.

I agree with Jup. For something decent, you're going to have to spend a bit more. How about giving her a gift card to B&H or your local camera shop if they carry a variety of tripods, so she can put that money towards something that will work for her.

I'd get her one with a removable head so in the future she can change different configurations if she wants too.

190XDB w/ ballhead $165.90

190XPROB w/ mini quick release ballhead $202.90

I've been trying to follow with all these tripod threads, but if i was in the same position looking for 150 range for a tripod, light weight no need for support of heavy zoom lens.

Think those two up there be good?
i'm also lost what kind of heads should i be getting?

Ive been looking at the following for a soon to be delivered 40D:

LEGS:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=479927&is=REG

HEAD:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=272780&is=REG

You can reduce the price of the combo if you downgrade the head a bit to:

The second one in bdog's post is pretty nice, (it's currently with free shipping, but being in NY you're going to have to pay taxes). When you want lightweight, you're going into aluminium then carbon fiber so $$$ will have to be spent.
