Should I buy it today?

I have tix to a yankees game tmro afternoon. Its gonna be a few rows behind the dugout so I think its a great opportunity to get some good pictures. I only have an Olympus d-510 P&S and it takes decent shots.

I've been thinking of getting the Canon XT body for a while now but I'm not sure if I should rush out and buy one tonight. Do you photographers think I can get by with the Olympus or should I just bite the bullet?

A local store is selling the Canon body for 699-100 rebate...I might be able to haggle a bit with them on the price.

Have you been wanting the XT because it takes "better" pictures or have you been wanting it because of the additional creative control it offers you to expand your photography? Even after you get the XT you may find that the "better" pictures it takes is outweighed by the convenience of a carrying a point and shoot.

A SLR is a ommitment. Even if you use it with full auto everything, you still have to commit to carrying it around. Even if you're OK with lugging it around, you'll still probably have to commit to buying one or two additional lenses beyond the kit if you want to "get serious" about photography.

I'm not trying to scare you away from the XT. It's an awesome camera. I just know that rush purchases often end up being regretted. Forget the ball game for a few minutes. Just think about *WHY* you've been wanting the XT.

Get it, you won't be disappointed! Then what lens are you going to get to go with it? If you need a cheap lens to get by with for tomorrow pick up a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III Autofocus Lens. They are around $150 and work pretty good.

I ended up getting it that night but I was only able to get the guy to drop 20 bucks. I wanted one for a while because I had wrecked my old Canon Elan a few year back and I've missed using an SLR. The old lenses fit and it only took me an 1 hour to figure out the controls again.

My buddy lied to me cus we were like 20-25 rows back so my telephoto shots were crap. Yankees bashed up Toronto pretty good!! I'll post pics when I get them re-sized and stuff.

Thank you gents for your opinions!
