Should I bring my DSLR to Europe with me?
Hey guys,
I am 23 and I am taking a month and a half off to go travel around Europe. I am going to Switzerland, France, Netherlands and a few other places tbd. I just assumed I would bring my XTi with the kit lens and 50mm 1.8, but everyone I have spoken with has told me not to take it. Their point is that I can't go out and party at night with something expensive, though I am not sure how much partying I am really going to be doing without at least a decent hotel to crash in. What do you guys think?

Do you have a place to stay or are you just winging it? What's the main purpose of the trip? Sightseeing?
FWIW, I am going to Europe this summer for a couple weeks and plan on taking my DSLR. If you have a decent bag (which I have yet to buy), I don't see a reason not to take it.

I would take it as long as you have a safe place to keep it when you aren't bringing it with you. If you're staying in hostels, they usually have lockers where you use your own lock. Hotels are generally safe, but it really depends on where you are staying.
FWIW I'm going to London and Paris next month and will definitely be taking my dSLR.

If you don't take it, you will regret it DAILY. You may only find a few times, though, that it is cumbersome.
Plus, there is a place in France where they don't wear underpants (I heard in a song) and some upskirt pics of hot women would be cool...

OMG! I couldn't imagine going to Europe and not bringing my dSLR. (I'd take the megazoom p&s Canon SX10 IS too).

+1 for take it. If your room doesn't have a safe, you can always ask the concierge to hold it for you as well. Get a receipt.
Have fun & post pics when you get back!

Go on a trip without taking your camera? You nuts?
Since having a load of gear, however, I do not share rooms with strangers anymore.
Doing a hostel is still cheap enough. Bring a smallish bag if you just want to head out.
Or just bring a backup P&S in the event you go somewhere you feel isn't SLR safe.
