Sharing Web Site?

Whats the best place to upload photos to share and store? My new camera can take pics up to 7MB. Doesn't matter whether its free or not.

Also, Im thinking about storing the photos on a dual-layer DVD disk. Any better suggestions?

www.flickr.com

You want to resize your pics before you upload if the main reason is sharing with others.

If you want the print option available to others, then you want to store a high-res copy on the photo sharing website.

You might be better off with a single layer dvd...much cheaper.

The reason I mentioned resize was because you'll save a lot of time uploading your images on the web. Resizing locally and uploading smaller files would be faster. But, I don't think you have to resize if you don't want to. Flickr doesn't have a limit on how large the image is, but I think it does have a limit of pictures you can upload per day. They have a pro account (25/year) where you don't have to worry about this limit.

Im looking at the Pro option now...Seems like a good option, you can archive all your photos on it.

yeah, the pro option is really the way to go. $24.95 for a whole year is pretty good and you can upload as many pics as you want as long as they are under 10MB. Ive been a member for 2-3 weeks and I am very happy with the whole site.

Does anyone use Flickr to store their pictures as a backup? How perminent do you think it is? Does anyone know if there is a program to download the pics in bulk?

I don't know about the permanence issue, but I have begun uploading full-sized files as just one more back-up. Granted, they're the jpegs, not the raw files, but at least it's something.

As to the uploading, though - if you go to the upload page, there's a little link on the upper left that says "uploading tools" that will take you various options.

Call me paranoid, but I'm not keen on relying on other people making backups for me.

Buy some high quality dvds for archiving, make dual backups, and you should be fine.
I would think single layer dvds should be plenty of space (certainly more cost effective), but it's your call.

Flickr seems to be the best game in town, but I hate how when you browse it doesn't remember that you want to 'view larger image'. You have to do that for EVERY pic.
pbase was a lot nicer in that respect.

I have burned many backups and put my photos on various hard-drives.....I'm tired of having to manage that, Im looking to have a central location for my pics that I know will be around forever.
