Resisting Temptation

I have been prequeting the FM and POTN marketplace type forums and keep seeing all of this great gear for sale and some of the deals are so good it's hard to resist. I have never had a need or even much desire for some of the things I see, either. Some things that tempt me:

10-22 3.5-5.6 EF-S - Will actually be renting on for a trip to the Grand Canyon
BG-E2(N) battery grip - even though I never have ran through a battery in one outing and have two backups
70-400 f4 IS - I do want one of these at some point, but the non-IS is doing just fine for now.

But, a quick look at other expenses brings me back to reality.

I did pick up the 17-55 2.8 IS EF-s, an hood for it (and the 17-40 f4 L) and an ebay wireless shutter release.

Does anyone else run into this with either new or used sales? How often to you sucumb to your urges?

Jup - I think you're disqualified, since it seems you pick up whatever you want

I gave in a little more. Just bought a used BG-E2 Grip and a new Crupler 7 million dollar home.

After the Grand Canyon trip next weekend, I might consider selling the 17-40 if the 17-55 performs as well as expected.

I just give in sometimes, telling myself it's ok because I need a hobby.

If you're not getting the IS version, you should also check out the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8. It's a very sharp lens at a very attractive price, plus it's smaller and lighter than the Canon. I think it's too often overlooked when people are shopping in this range. It's at least worthwhile trying one out at your local camera shop. Currently they go for $799 vs. $1150 for the Canon equivalent.

You cannot resist. Resistance is futile.

Just buy it all.

i'm debating what to buy before a trip to europe in august........

I think i'm pretty good at resisting temptation. I bought my camera like 2 years ago, and the only thing I bought was a nifty fifty.

You obviously aren't. Which justifies your uncoolness..

J/K, just giving the peer pressure treatment. Don't go into bankruptcy just because we want you to have this lens!!

"Hey Mizouse, take pictures of all your new room mates at the homeless shelter with your new lens" is not how this thread should end....

I've gotten more into a 'is it worth it?' mentality, which makes it easier to hold off.
Also the 'Am I really going want to carry this around with me?' question is important. I don't really want to bring more stuff around with me.

Like if I get a tripod, I'm going to get a pretty nice one, otherwise I'm not going to want to carry it around with me. But I can't justify the cost, because I'm simply not going to use it that much.

yea i shouldve done that more with the 17-55 2.8 IS, while yes i do use it alot, but thats with basketball where i need the 2.8.

if i had to do it over, i would've went with the 70-200 2.8 first and then the 17-55 2.8 IS, but I'm sort of happy the way i did it because its hard to beat the price that i got my 17-55 for
