Red Eye

Hi All,
I was taking pictures of my daughter's performance in the "cafetorium"; florescent light, shooting a group of children on stage in black shirts. I was in the front row and shooting in zoom mode. I tried every possible setting. In every picture all of the kids have red eye. What am I doing wrong??

You aren't doing anything wrong, it's what the eyes do. If your camera has a red-eye reduction mode in the flash settings, you can use it, but you still might get the red-eye.

Don't worry if you do, many software programs have auto red-eye removal. If you don't have, you can use Google's free Picasa software to work the images.

Thanks for restoring my sanity.

Red eye removal was enabled. I even tried to reduce the exposure to the lowest setting. I have Paintshop Pro, and know how to remove red eye, but it is a PITA, especially for multiple sets of eyes.

It's almost impossible to get rid of red eye when the flash is directly to your subject. Most cameras with a red-eye setting, does a couple little flashes of light before the real flash goes off, trying to trick the eyes.

Some newer cameras have auto red eye removal in the camera as software.
