Recommend a Lense please!

I broke my 18-55 lens some how...it is stiff while twisting it. So recommend a replacement. It was the stock one that came with the Nikon D50. Whats a good replacement in the 300-500 range?

I have a 55-200mm lens but its annoying when you aren't trying to zoom. It is going to be used in doors so I dont want too big of a zoom.

I have the Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Lens for my Canon and it's my main lens. I would think it would do good on a Nikon as well.

Focal length multiplier on the D50 is 1.5. With a 50mm he'd only get a field of view of a 75mm. Might be a little too narrow for a standard lens.

I don't know what Nikon has but if they have a fast prime in the 30-35 range, I'd recommend that.

I Nikon 50mm 1.8f would be a good lens you can keep forever (as long as you stay within Nikon). But yes I agree with the ^ that the multiplier does change for DSRLs. You can pick on up for around $100 on ebay.

I picked up a Sigma 18-200mm DC 3.5-6.3f Lens for $260 on ebay. I got a good deal on it, but you can find them floating around for $300~$400.

My suggestion would be to go to www.dpreview.com and join the forum. They have excellent advice to give and choices of lenses based on your shooting needs. (not saying the advice here isn't top notch, but that is a huge forum for digital cameras).
