Question About Tokina 11-16

I know this is really random, but...

Does anyone know if these are still really hard to get a hold of? I don't mind waiting a few weeks, but I know a while back the wait time was many months.

I ask because B&H has them for $600, but they're out of stock.

Amazon has 2 left at $725..I'd pay the extra $$ if it means otherwise waiting 6 months, but not if the backorders are usually a month or 2.

Anyone have some knowledge to share? Thanks!

(Anyone want a 10-22?)

Getting better to find, I think there's one on local c/l. But that amazon listing is not amazon.com but a Dbroth, they have higher prices.

Yeah, I saw it's sold by a 3rd party. Wasn't sure if the mark-up was because of demand or just a stupid mark-up

Thanks, Jup, I'll probably order through B&H & wait it out.

You know, Ace will match B&H prices, plus you could trade in the 10-22...

Will they? That's fabulous - their price is one of the highest on Amazon. Do they give good $$ for swaps? That would be so simple. It stresses me to try to sell to unknown entities.

Don't suppose you know anyone who wants a diamond ring, do you? How about some china or a treadmill?

Last time I was in there and bought a lens, he matched me B&H prices.

Try and go in there and talk with Mo, let him know you where about to buy one form B&H and they don't have. And someone told you about Ace, see what he does. They gave me a decent price for trading in a lens once.

I'm actually remembering that they did price match for me on my 60mm macro when I didn't want to wait for it to be shipped. I'll talk to them. Thanks!

I wish Id known you wanted one, I picked one up about a month ago off CL for $525, played with it a bit, but decided to keep my 10-20 and sold it on POTN

Most don't like because it tops out @ 16mm.

I'm okay with that - I usually am at the wider range when using my UWA.

mostly the difference in what my nearly new 10-20 was worth compared to what I paid for it right before christmas.

I dont really pull the 10-20 out of my bag unless I a. either need its wideness to make a shot, or b. force myself to go out with it on the camera.

I liked it, but I couldnt justify the cost at the time.

Why are you getting rid of the 10-22?

I just bought my Tamron 10-24mm from Penn Camera for 400.00

The primary thing that interests me about the Tokina is the constant 2.8 aperture.

The 10-22 is fine at what it does. From what I'm reading it's probably a little better at handling CA and flare, though its CA is pretty abysmal. PS has gotten really good at cleaning that stuff up. The lens doesn't compare to my others in contrast or sharpness, though. I've been impressed by the output I've seen from the Tokina - bokeh in an UWA...

When I was shopping for it, I couldn't find any new ones on/off line stores anywhere. Nikon mount ones were everywhere but not the one for Canon. Some online stores had those notify features upon availability, but they don't work well..

So after struggling to find a new one for almost 2 months, I just got a slightly used one from POTN. I got mine for around $560, IIRC. I'm the second owner, and it came with the original receipt and box and everything. Couldn't be happier. Plus, the lens hold its value exceptionally well.

It really is a great lens! Good luck!
