I think it would be kinda neat to have a Photoshop "how-to" thread in this section. I've always wanted to learn more, and im sure im not alone.

So....Post up what tips and tricks (along with examples if possible) of what you think is cool with P/S. Anyone who wants to know more ask the question, im sure it will be answered as there are some REALLY talented people on this site!

There are quite a few good links to "how-to" sites in Scott's thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/cameras-photography-44/need-help-total-photoshop-dummy-341313/

I don't really have many fancy photoshop tricks to share. Since I shoot RAW 100% of the time, all of my shots need to be "developed" in the RAW converter. That development process eliminates most of the standard image processing I would typically do in Photoshop. If I need to do something over and above the RAW conversion, I just use basic adjustment layers and masks.

I have always found I get better results by sharpening in Photoshop for my desired output device than I would by relying on the in-camera sharpening. So I use Unsharp mask quite a bit. Here's a trick for you: try a local contrast adjustment by setting the unsharp mask to 20%/50px/0.

By "local" you mean that you adjust this on the camera body?

I found this little USM trick yesterday. Tried it last night on some baseball shots and it works great. Adds a lot of "pop" to your images.

Keep in mind, it uses USM, but it's not a sharpening step.

Read the second post down, after clicking here.

Thanks and credit to Dr. Jalapeno.

^^Hmm, after reading Dan's post, it looks like these two techniques are similar.

He means local within the image. You do the adjustment in Unsharp Mask in Photoshop or some similar editing program.

Just wanted to add a trick in here. Might be obvious but maybe not.

If you're resizing a pic into a web image or e-mail friendly size, do a sharpening on the pic after the resizing - it will most likely look better. Use your judgment on how much to sharpen it.
