Photo editing application

Hi all,

I've read countless reviews and threads here about the different photo editing applications and my head is spinning. I'm looking for something economical (read - cheap) that will allow me to do things like cloning and such. What are your recommendations.

no better bang/buck than Gimp - it's free, and fairly respectable.

I've seen a lot of people talk about Lightroom. What's the difference between Lightroom and PS Elements?

Lightroom is a Photographers software, just as the name implies it's like being in a darkroom. You load the rawfiles to your computer, do your adjustment and publish the picture in various ways, but you also have the raw file to work with. You can download a demo for this one as well. PS Element is a watered down version of PS.

I might have PS elements 2.0 somewhere that you can have.

Just found it. Now this two versions ago.

That's what I thought after reading about it.

Thanx Jupe, I've got the trial version of Elements 5.0 and find it pretty easy to use. I may just fork over the money for it.

^^ Before you buy, if you do. Look at amazon.com for it, they always have rebates for it. If you need something for upgrade rebates let me know, you can have this disk.

Will do. Thanks. I just downloaded the trial version of Lightroom and I'm way out of my league with it. Way too much. For what I need to do it would be like pulling weeds with a back-hoe.
