Opinions needed.
Guys, im trying to figure out which would be better for me. Currently i have a 40D setup with Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and nifty fifty. Im a debated on whether i should sell my 40d and go with a 7D or get a L lens. could you give me some insights and why you would do that.
Well that's not enough info... what are you looking to get out of the deal? What are your current needs? Are you wanting to change the body for a particular reason? What type of shots do you usually take?

So I upgraded from a 40d to a 7d. At the time, I really didn't need to do it but came across a sick deal and already had a buyer for my 40d... ie.. the stars were in alignment. Now that I have the 7d, I'm glad I did it. Noise is MUCH improved, better AF system (sick AF system compared to 40d), HD Video, and just overall a much more intuitive and better camera. But at the same time, the 40d is still a great camera. If you want to go FF at some point, maybe just keep the 40d for now and wait for the 5dMIII.

Thanks Synth. its pretty much a compulsive buy in the way. My 40d is only has about 7k actuations. But to answer your question einsatz, its more for just family taking and freestyle. I think at this point im going to just build my lense collection and just how synth went by it, if a deal come by that i can't pass up then ill do that instead.
Thanks for the replies guys.

I want to upgrade as well
I don't want to spend alot as it is just a hobby I am going from a Rebel xti (which I got for free) to a 60d.
I don't really need or want the features of the 7D and I also like the fact that it is lighter and does HD video.

A good lens will only depreciate so much (as long as you take care of it), whether it's a year later or 5 years later. Camera bodies drop the minute a replacement comes out (which is pretty often, unless we're talking about the high ends). At 1.6x the widest you got (28mm) is the equivalent to about 44mm, I'd say go with the lens first, maybe something wider(?).

yea, i thought about pulling the trigger on the 7D by selling my XT and 20D....decided to sell the XT, invest in some glass..........will upgrade later...20D is more then capable at taking great photos.
I'm always told...it isn't the camera...it's the lenses and photographer

touche......that had been my downfall forever......amazed how easy lightroom has made it though...the old photoshop I use to use was a freakin nightmare!
There's also a forum., http://www.lightroomforums.net/forum.php
I also went from a 40D to a 7D. My 40D now feels like a toy and I don't enjoy shooting with it nearly as much as I used to. The 7D is that much of a step up.
That said, I agree with those who have said not to upgrade the body first unless you're bumping up against its limitations.
