You should get some cool pics. I'll be doing something similar in Kauai this September.

awesome

My buddy who is a pilot flies around nyc all the time and has asked me to come along the next time he rents a plane.

I am surprised anyone can go and fly around nyc without going through a lot of paper work.

If he doesn't like altitude, he's in the wrong business.

Well he was a NYPD Pilot for years so he's used to chasing the bad guys through the streets.

Man you are so lucky and I'm so jealous! If I had a chance like that it'll give me a reason to buy another lens 10-22 anyone?

Next time I go up I'm going to need a zoom lens that stabilizes maybe I'll rent one or something. Nothing too extreme of a zoom but something with enough pull to get me that perfect shot.

hey guys,

I'm working on some of the shots it was my first time up there so they're amateur at best but here are some quick ones. There is no better sightseeing/photography helicopter than a Bell.

Remember MASH? Oh yeah.

Here's my buddy sweeping in to a turn over Staten Island showing me some houses.

Ground Zero Reconstruction.

Remember in the Godfather when the kids are getting baptised? This is the church (minus the red doors).

On the beachline we dropped down close and waved at the beachgoers.

I will be going back here again this is a boat graveyard since the early 1900's.

That looks like so much fun...

I would have thought ground zero would have been more built by now though...

The photo possibilities look endless in that boat graveyard. I assume that it's off limits by anything other than air though.

Yeah, of everything he showed me that really peaked my attention. Were gonna head back out there maybe early morning for some spooky shots. If I can get there by car that would be awesome.

It's off the coast of Staten Island, looking for a map of it.

That chopper is solid and smooth as ever. Just don't fall out and don't lean out too far taking a picture.

As my friend once said 'boys like planes, men fly choppers'.

You gusy seem to be flying low, is there a limitation on altitude with a private copter.

From there go south west to the bottom of the island. if you look on the shores you'll see the graveyard.

Not sure of all the rules but the chopper can go up to 1400ft. Under certain altitudes you can maintain certain altitudes but you can't buzz a house or something that silly. Once you enter certain areas you have to let the air controllers know who you are and let them put you into a certain altitude.

My friend (the pilot) he is a very careful pilot so he flies close to open areas and always is looking for landing opportunities (in the event he needed to).

Very cool - the shots and getting to fly in the chopper.

Next time, try for a few skyline shots.

Im really impressed how these came out. I thought the helicopter would be vibrating too much to take a decent shot!

My thoughts exactly!

Nice pics - I'd love to see more of the boat graveyard when you go back.
