Newbie Help: Getting a Digi Camcorder

My company gave me a buncha Best Buy Gift cards so now I was thinking of getting a Digital Camcorder but just wanted to pick everyones brain to see what they would recommend.

I mean I know they have all different medias now, MiniDV, DVD, Hard Drives and whatever but wanted something with good image stabilization as I will probably be doing some videos within my cars as well.

In a Nutshell I'm looking for:

1. Good Image stabilization
2. Clear video
3. Simplicity when adapting to my computer to convert the videos over
4. Price-Range is between $600-800

If I do recall correctly Sony uses the Carl Zeiss lenses (Sp?) which are supposed to be great for imaging but I am not too familiar with cameras/camcorders in gerenal.

From my experience, I've only owned Sony Camcorders. There are 4 of them in my house now, 2 of them are over 6 years old. with that, look at Sony or Canon. I'd stay away from DVD, it don't trust the writers, too easy to break. My father in law had cd camera didn't hold up well.

Mini DV is over 6 years old, but the future is going to be harddrive. I just got the Sony SR1, but haven't mess with it yet.

I suggest looking at amazon.com to see what people are buying and what they're saying after the purchase. Also the comment/ratings only epinions.com is good.

Sony just announced 5 new HDD camera's, the top of the line will be around $1000.00. You may want to wait on your purchase for a couple of months. Shipping them in March. The low model will go for around $600.

You could either get the newest technology or a good deal on last years model.
