Newb to DSLR here.

I just picked up a Nikon D70 body from a buddy at a good price. Now I am in the market for a good all-around lense just to get started.

I would like some suggestions from fellow D70 users and from all of the others willing to give input as well as far as which lense I should pick up first. Then other "must have" lenses and accessories will be nice to know of.

As far as lenses go, I see plenty on the recommended bhphotovideo site. How are the Sigma and Tamron lenses in general?

All advice is welcome. Thanks!

The Nikon 18-200 is a pretty good all around lens, a little soft around 200 some say. If you want wide the Tokina 11-16mm is kicking some ass. What price range are you talking about? The two I mention are about 6-7 Bens

In addition to BH, you can check Adorama too. They have competitive prices, and Adorama does free shipping on many orders.

For both BH and Adorama, you can get cashback through Bing. It's just 3-4% but camera gear tends to be expensive so every bit helps.

I am really hoping to spend no more than $350 on a decent all-arounder to start off.

I'm checking out that Adorama site now.

Thanks guys.

I'm eyeballing this one:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._XR_Di_II.html

Free shipping too. And I would def have to pick up a tripod for this as well.

33 reviews with an average of 4.5 stars doesn't seem too bad.

I found it fifty bucks cheaper on eBay. Also free shipping. At $240 it seems like a good buy. Hopefully those reviews hold true. I guess I'll find out.

I didn't realize the Tamron lens you're looking at didn't have optical stabilization.

I'm hesitant to recommend it because it is pretty slow on the tele end. Those super zooms really need stabilization.
