New Camera Suggestion
Curious for some input about potentially moving to a different camera.
Right now, I'm using a D300. Love the camera. No problems, and don't have any problem sticking with it for years to come. However, I have recently been getting the itch for something video capable. I used to be anti-video with DSLR's. But the capability and the chance to at least dabble with it has got me interested.
The biggest things I'd want to keep if I was to move to a different camera (Nikon only), is:
1: Bracketing; I'd really not want to give up any bracketing ability. The D300 allows up to 9. The D7000 caught my eye for a bit, but when I realized it could only go up to 3, I was turned off.
2: Handling/Comfort: I don't have small hands by any stretch...the D300 is practically a perfect feel/fit in my hands. Definitely wouldn't mind something lighter, but I'd sacrifice weight over having a scrunched/crowded handling.
I'm not a professional, and I'm not a MP whore...so I don't need a D800 (although if somebody wants to buy me one, feel free
). Also, if I "upgrade" I'd prefer not to have to pay too too much extra over what I'd get for dumping my D300.
Suggestions?

I think the absolute most I'd want to spend on a new body (before taking into account whatever amount I'd get for my D300) is about $1,800. The D300s is in the range, albeit the top. It does have video, but just up to 720. If I got the D300s, I'm not sure if I'd want the extra bit from 1080 that other bodies offer. And the fact that some of the cheaper bodies have 1080 makes me kind of
. It does keep the same bracketing (D300s). Is there any more benefit than the video the D300s adds over the D300? It seems to be relatively identical. Again, I'm not a MP or performance whore. I do want quality which I'll know I'll get out of just about any Nikon...however I still want to get my $$$$'s worth. Why pay additional to get essentially an identical camera with video added, over potentially making a few bucks by "going down" to a camera with better video and more MP? Is there something I'm missing? Is it just because the D7000 is a newer body than the D300s?

Without this turning into some Yumcha-bias thing, I have a $1000+ Sony Alpha...but, I got that for free. So, don't know if $1000ish cameras by Sony are even comparable in quality/performance to the prior mentioned two brands. My wife primarily uses it and she seems to really like it.
