Lightroom VS. "You Name It"
OK...my adobe woes aside, I'm currently (FINALLY) set up with a working adobe flow...took forever but I ended up switching to the Photography plan with Classic & CC.
Now, I was tasked with shooting some photos of my father in law's old shop, as we have sold it and the last day is Friday. I figured this would be a good opportunity to test out what everyone in the Fuji community says n regards to Adobe not handling Fuji RAW as well as others.
I downloaded Alienskin Exposure 3, and I have Affinity on the iPad.
Now...getting too heavy on the sharpening in Photoshop definitely adds what is being referred to as "worming"...looks like little worm crawling over the image.
AND Alienskin X3 has some extra/different sharpening options.
I'm really trying to see what the fuss is all about with the Fuji community. Either I'm not taking photos correctly (I dont think thats the case) or this is really come down to pixel peeping on the deepest level. I'm really trying to see a discernible difference. I mean when I'm in to 3:1 I can maybeeeee see a teensy bit of extra detail...hard to tell.
I haven't tried Affinity yet...I was but it crashed and didn't save anything.
Both Classic and CC allow you get in depth with sharpening while holding down the option key. I wish there was a way to accomplish this in the iPad App. Its very helpful.
Alienskin X3 seems like a pretty good and powerful app...but for the less than discernible difference, I once again find myself sitting here stuck with the system I know all too well, and has the feature se tI want (iPad Pro functionality)
Now, I made this as a new thread because if people are getting away from Lightroom or seeing major differences in quality with a different editor...post it here.
I'll try and post some result from each one...They are in various stages of editing because I'm not familiar with the others, so the results aren't as "polished" for me.

I did notice in the finest of details that a car license came out slightly sharper/easier to read in the X3 image....but its small and slight...I'm not sure that it makes much a difference. The ability to discern such difference. Perhaps for landscape shooting.
I will say Alienskin's Blow Up software seems pretty sweet if you enlarging for large prints.

I can definitely see some difference in portraits...but then I believe that becomes preference...do want to see everyones pores, or do you want a little diffusion built in ala celluloid? definitely more detail pops on X3 here...but again, I think the slight diffusion is more flattering to people.
Think this becomes a preference here.

I dont like how Affinity deals with sharpening on the iPad.
I decided to try Capture One...The more expensive of the choices. BUT they seem to have the BEST sharpening. It is noticeably better.

I want to upload examples but AZ tells me the file sizes are too large. I have full and zoomed in crops for 2 images from each of the 3 editors.
I can post the crop ins.

And one last one.
Irident X-Transformer.
This is strictly a RAF converter designed to be used in conjunction with Lightroom. You convert your RAF files to DNG via this app, which does its own internal sharpening and forgoes Lightroom. Then you load in to lightroom and edit as you normally would.
I'm pretty impressed with this one...especially for $30. It does a noticeable job...I think. And you get to continue with an app you know...even though it keeps in the Adobe world.
Downsides:
-Keeps you in the Adobe world
-converts from RAF to DNG...would be nice to import, catalog and keep everything as RAF. But not a huge deal
-Having to use an app before using an app....also, desktop only, no iPad Pro app.

The differences are very small...but can best be seen in the blow of the shop. Notice the detail looks cleaner in the grey transformer and the rear of the gold lincoln. More detail, cleaner lines and looks more natural than the others...I feel.

So...seeing all this, comments? questions? personal experience with some of these apps with regards you might have more or better use of them than I did?

I shoot people
so... the past few years, I've been using a Plug-in program to clean noise... (can also be used as a stand-alone program), as someone that shoots wildlife, especially with birds-in-flight... I need fast shutter speed and oftentimes that yields to high ISOs which yields to noise... Topaz Ai's "DeNoise" is great... it was literally the best $80 I've ever spent (I think it was actually on sale at the time, so it was less)... But Adobe seems to be gunnin' for all these programs... they went after Luminar Ai and brought features to Lightroom and Photoshop that Luminar offered, now they are going after Topaz Ai. The latest Lr CC update includes their version of "DeNoise" and it's pretty darn good... I haven't had enough experience with it yet to say if it's better than Topaz, but it's not far from it.
the first photo was straight out of camera, I took this picture of the owl at ISO12800, and the 2nd photo was "DeNoise'd" with Lr and then color graded.
the ONLY think that I think Topaz is still better is that they tend to actually sharpen the image sometimes when cleaning noise... where as I don't think Adobe's DeNoise in Lr doesn't seem to do that

When was this update? Lightroom has had denoise since forever. So if this was a big update I’m curious to see the notes on it as I’ve always been interested in topaz.

You're thinking about the "Noise Reduction" slider... yes, that's been there for years... and it wasn't very good (still isn't... it softens the image), but it now has a "Denoise" feature, and it's much better, albeit... it takes a few seconds to do it (maybe longer if you have a slower computer)... it was added in the latest update, which I believe it was released yesterday (?)
