Let's see some car shots...

This is the first Ford GT I saw in public. Just happened to have the 20D with me Shot these in Bellevue, WA a couple of years ago. Not the best shooting conditions, but they came out pretty good.

The GT is one of the sexiest vehicles I've ever had the pleasure of viewing personally:

Shot with the 20D & 17-85 IS. Let's see the cars!

Well, thanks for the input, but they came out just fine, considering the midday sun. The 20D's popup flash at that distance would've been next to useless. I didn't have the 580EX then.

Let's see some of yours.

^That link does have some good info in it (Dan posted it before), and I've since used the tips in my car show shots, but this was a case of grabbing shots on the fly when I saw the car. I wasn't as concernced with artistic integrity as I was of simply getting the shots. Bright overhead sun can be brutal to shoot in.

However, if you're going to critique someones shots, you have to put your own out there too.

To get back on track, let's see the cars!

Good results from a tough lighting situation!
The contrast might be a little high, but it's hard to tell on my laptop...

I hardly ever get to do car shoots outside of a car show or a race track.
Since I mentioned I had some shots with the 18-55mm kit lens in badboy's thread, I might as well post a couple here.

From NAIAS 2005:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/acurazinedan/18118891/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/acurazinedan/18118846/
Both were taken with my Rebel (300D) and the 18-55mm kit lens.

From Mosport:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/acurazinedan/233363149/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/acurazinedan/233811166/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/acurazinedan/234273747/All were taken with my 30D and 70-200 f4L.

I'll have to make a point of going out and shooting some car photos next year, since it apears I really don't have many.

Good shots Dan. I remember you posting the pic of the Porsche GT as an example of the 18-55's sharpness. It's a good little lens. Love the Audi R8; good pan there with the wheels and BG nicely blurred.

You're right about the contrast. I was just starting out with PP then, and tended to go a little nuts with the contrast and saturation After a while you figure out less is often more.

Srika post that sucker. It's all good.

I don't really have many car shots, plus what I do have, isn't necessarily available online. But here's a simple shot taken a few years ago with a VERY basic and cheap P&S after I detailed the car:

Oh yeah....and here's another:

Nice shots EuRTSX and Street Spirit. By definition those shots are great because they include the TSX Nice detail job SS.

You're right about Neo. He's posted some stuff in the TSX forums and it's really good. Very creative. I'll look for his flickr site.

Tripod and flash. The only problem is the flash on your camera probably isn't strong enough from that distance to light the car. With a pod you could try a longer exposure, just be careful of blowing out the highlights in the background.

Maybe move a little closer, expose for the BG, then let the flash lift the shadows on your car.

Here's a few shots from a hot rod show this summer where I used some of the tips from the link mizouse provided above. I had the 580EX, and you can see how the flash really opens up the wheels in the shots, even on bright, sunny days. It makes a big difference in how the shots turn out, IMO. I used a circular polarizer on a lot of these shots, so color saturation is high, even though I added none in PS:

1941 Willys

1926 Ford Coupe

Yenko Chevelle

1963 Corvette

The wheels on these cars were in shadows on the test shots I made without the flash.

Astroboy,

On the white ?CL?, how does one get in the car with no door handles?

Also, is that blemish on the driver's door or on the lens?

Nice pics!!

that's a TL, it's got 4 doors, not 2

The doors open remotely using the alarm remote.

the mark on the door, is a hair on my sensor, not the lens.
