Help with Cleaning Rebel XT
So last night I took some pictures of a friends car in a parking structure, and once I loaded them onto the computer, I could see the spots on the white walls of the structure that are dust inside my camera. It's not the lens, the mirror looks to be clean, but I just cant tell.
What's the easiest way to clean it? I will try to get some pics up so you can see the spots I am referring to..... |
Here is a picture. You can see the spots above the car on the ceiling beams.....

Check both sides of the lens first, then get one of the blower things http://www.photosafaris.com/Images/C...SensorSwab.jpg and blow some air into the camera, it works for me every time.
|
Just go to the sensor cleaning option in the menu and use an air blower (not compressed air!) to blow the dust off the sensor.

Usually the air duster works for me. I've even used a turkey baster the first time, which helped a lot . But once there was something that just wasn't coming off, so I bought the sensor cleaning kit from copperhill images. Worked great, but at first I was a little hesitant to be touching my sensor. But when a professional sensor cleaning is over $100, I figured I can do it myself . I've only had to use it once, but If my sensor looks dirty again, I wouldn't have a problem using it again. |
awesome.
Thanks guys!! I'm assuming I can just pick those up at any camera store right? I know I've seen them there. Any particular one to look for, or will any one do? |
In my manual it says I have to have the sensor cleaned by an authorized dealer. It does not say I can clean it with air, or anything. I heard somewhere that Canon will do it for free? Am I hearing lies or is there any truth to this. It's about time I got this thing cleaned.

^^I've read that even when Canon does it (and I don't think they do it for free) it often comes back no better than it was when it was sent in. You're better off doing it yourself, IMO.

that would suck. fwiw, I just sent it out for cleaning at Helix camera... they are a reputable Chicago camera shop. I guess we will have to see how it goes. :< they are gonna give me an estimate.
