Hey all,
Let me admit that I know nothing about digi-cams. I only use them for basic stuff like photographer cars, car parts, and stuff around the house. That's really all. Up until May of 2005 I was using a 1.2 MP camera. The one I'm borrowing now is a 3.2mp... but I figured it was time to look into a new one.
I found two good deals from another forum, but the problem is that I do not know which one is better... so I'm bowing to the camera gods of AZ looking for assistance. TIA

IMO, most of Kodak's cameras seemed to be targeted for the soccer mom crowd. For pocket sized cameras, most people currently consider Canon > *.
Juniorbean, are you specifically looking for a pocket sized camera? If not, you may also want to take a look at the Canon A series. Also, you really don't need more than 5 MP if you never plan on making prints larger than 8x10.

Hey, thanks for the replies guys.
Not specifically looking for a pocket sized camera... but that is really all I have been using. For example, the camera I'm borrowing is an HP M305. Very rarely do I ever take pictures that aren't in or around the house. So far, I've never traveled with a digi-cam, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to... it's just that we're not big camera people.
I'm not sure if we'd ever make prints larger then an 8x10. We never have before, but we've also never really had a decent camera before, so it was really never an option.
My concern would be that the Canon would be overkill... however, for that price, it seems like a good purchase (as far as I know.. and I don't know much)

Talk about overkill. He says there not really camera people. I guess he could learn but he probly wouldn't use it to its potential.
And its more money.

Shoofin has a S50 I think he would be willing to sell.

If you want to stay on the cheaper side of things with ease of use...I'd go SD400. You can one at a great price now. And it simple and takes great pics.

The Canon 'A' series are an excellent bang for the buck.
If you're willing to bump your budget up a bit, the Canon A620 has gotten excellent reviews, and is on sale from buydig or Beach camera for $318. I can vouch for both places.
The Canon A520 is cheaper, but you lose fun stuff like a 'twisty' LCD for shooting at angles (like shooting yourself), and it is a much slower camera. I'd stick with the A620.

Only reason I didnt mention the A series is because something about the design bothers me. But it is a good camera.

I've got an SD550 and would recommend it
Got it for $360 late last year, but I also dropped $80 on a high speed 1GB Sandisk UltraII SD card, which is fantastic.
I really, really like the very fast response time from the camera. Especially when taking pics of the nephews, being able to snap 7.1MP shots with <1s between shots is great.
The only complaint I have, and it applies to most cameras in this size/price range, is that without IS, your low-light/no-flash shots will be blurry without a tripod.
