Harold Edgarton
The local contemporary art museum just finished showing an exhibit of Dr. Edgarton's work, including a great ~45minute video interview of him. FYI (I didn't know this b4 I went) Dr. Edgarton invented the strobe light, and then went on to pioneer it's use in photography. Every time your Speedlight fires, thank Dr. Edgarton. Some of his photographs are incredible to look at, and even more incredible to hear the story behind it.
This famous picture of the milk drop forming the crown in the splash
took him several THOUSAND attempts to get the crown the way he wanted it. That's allot of milk drops!
If you Google his name, there are many online pages devoted to his work, and some amazing photo's, of course.
Incidentally, his invention of the strobe was originally to help him as an engineer studying high speed motors. Think "timing gun" for your car engine.
