glow - Santa Monica

Last night in Santa Monica there was some "art installation" event called glow.

Basically, after showing up, I discovered it really more an all night rave on the pier/beach. They had DJs spread out everywhere, and the "at installations" were areas set up with video projectors and nothing coherent playing on them.

There were also TONS of people. Too many.

Either way I snapped some shots. A lot of it was playing around. I wasn't too happy with most of what I got but there are couple OK shots. I even played around with black & white a little. Some shots I can't decide if they are better in color or b&w.

Too many people on the pier

I might need to try the NX capture software...high iso still equals a lot of grain in the form of red/blue pixels dots everywhere. It kills me to see it. I wonder if the Nikon softare has anything that addresses it.

Hmm, I haven't heard of having that kind of grain before but my D80 doesn't go that far... Try downloading (or buying) the Neatimage plugin for Photoshop, it's great for removing noise.

Wow, that is a lot of people. Nighttime shots are tough, especially with that many people around. I think you did pretty well.

Anywhere from 3200, 4000, 5000 mainly and a couple 6400/HI 03 thrown in. HI 1 is 25600.

For some odd reason none of the metadata exported from the images

Cool pics! I like #2 and #6 the best. Man that crowd would have been too much for me.

Thanks stogs...it was packed...and I hate people.

I just solidfied my shoulders so people bounced off me rather than knocked back, and I kept whacking people out my way wearing my Slingbag 300 ...its got some girth.

Nice work man. I definitely like the B&W crowd shots better than the color ones. And the shots of the motion-blurred performers with the non-blurred crowd in the background are really interesting.

Lots of people like that is bad enough. Through in X (or even alcohol or whatever is the current drug of choice) and I want no part of it. I even hate the crowds at "The Happiest Place on Earth".

BTW - nice pics. Though a few of them could have used some IS or a tripod
