Generic batteries?

I have never bought an extra battery that was generic but I was contemplating getting one. Now I have never had my battery run out (I did a 8 hour shoot taking around 600-650 pictures no dead battery) but I was thinking to get one as a back up juuuust in case.

Anyone ever done this? Will it cause a problem or should I just spend the extra dollars and get the real deal.

i once bought a energizer battery for my digital rebel. It worked well for a while, but a couple months later it wouldn't hold more than about 10 minutes of juice. While my canon battery worked fine for another couple years.

A couple months ago I bought a battery at batteries plus. So far it has held up well. The savings over canon wasn't so great though. I will probably just go get the canon version next time around.

In my experience, mostly with rc cars. You get what you pay for.

I'll second sterlingtek...I've ordered 3 batteries for my XT from them (using 2 at a time, with the battery grip) and they rock.

I do, however, wish someone would test/review their flash cards. I'm reluctant to take the plunge on one...
