Disneyland's Summer Fireworks - Magical

Disneyland just started their new summer fireworks show, so we decided to check it out on Saturday before our passes expired on Sunday. Here are a few taken - all taken with the 10-22. I should have just used the 17-55 since very few needed to be wider than 17.

Awesome shots!

I was just there Friday the 5th. I watched the fireworks from Downtown Disney, which wasn't as spectacular, but not nearly as crowded.

You have really nailed this down Moe, I was about to jump on a plane and go with you to do some. Then I read that your pass expired. Again

Thanks all for the comments. It's actually pretty fun shooting, aside from the crowds. We got lucky with our "seats" dead center of the castle and didn't have too many heads in the way.

Luv - We usually end up watching from the parking structure to avoid the crowds, but it loses something without the music and naration.

crazy - The exif should be available on Flickr, but these were all at ISO 200 between 3-6 seconds and f16-f22. It gets a little tougher balancing the building with the fireworks. The sweet spot for these fireworks is around 4 seconds @ f16. When you get heavy fire, you should probably be at ISO 100 and f22-ish.

jup - we'll be renewing our passes at the end of summer, so if you want to come out then, let me know.

Beautiful.

I noticed a flickr comment on your first shot:

Janice Mark says:
Hi, I'm an admin for a group called My Favourite Disney Photos ever!, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

Thanks again everyone.

Pimp - I know what you mean. On days that I bring the camera we stick to the slower rides, but it really isn't too much of an issue as long as you put the camera in a bag.

wndrmoxie - It's not like I designed the fireworks.

dirgo - I fire it constantly. There are usually some lulls in the music/naration where you can tell something is about to happen. But seriously, I was nearly continually pressing the shutter release - MLU, then release. The longer shutter speeds are pretty forgiving.

Here's one where I was a little late, but if I fired earlier, I might have missed some. But sometimes you can't fire a new frame because you're still in the middle of the previous one:

I think he is in the California one, not the Orlando one.

Any larger sizes?

Thanks everyone. I wasn't expecting this to get bumped, but I hope the info posted might have helped out people who shot fireworks this weekend.

My wife and I have been sick for about a week now and barely managed to get out of the house for an hour last night to watch fireworks. I took a few shots, but the show we saw and the vantage point we had weren't terribly impressive. I had the moon (which just looks like an overexposed white ball) and a light pole in every shot. Oh well. I'll go through them later and post a few.

These were all at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.

From pictures I have seen on flickr, WDW in Florida has some great fireworks and plenty of great places to watch from. At Disneyland, there is one prime place and a few others with okay views.

Whiskers - how large are you looking for? The shots on flickr are just over 1024x768, but I can upload a couple of higher rez images. Let me know which ones.

Here's a link to the high res version. The image was cropped originally, but I think it should still be plenty big enough.

I'll leave it up until tomorrow.
