Digital Camera for under 700?

Looking to get my wife a camera for christmas. We have a smaller digitial camera but have realized that for better pictures the little camera is just not doing it, its a Casio Exilm 7.2MP.

She is interested in taking shots of our daughters, landscapes, etc. Nothing too fancy but looking for something that will look a little nicer when she does some close up pictures.

Any recommended cameras or review sites I should check out? Remember she is a beginner.

Thanks for any pointers boys and girls

With a budget of $700 you have a whole lot of choices. Do you think your wife would be willing to sacrifice some size for somewhat better image quality and more flexibility? If so, then I would recommend looking into the Canon S3-IS.

SD850 IS would get my vote. Get a nice bag and a 2GB card, and call it a day.

Yeah, we have the small camera to bring to events and stuff (just fits in the pocket) she would rather have something a little larger for more set up pictures.

I will check out the 3 you guys listed and let you know if I have any other questions.

Thanks for the tips

If size isn't a concern, definitely take a look at an entry-level DSLR.
