Check out this short film that Dove created on retouching portraits for advertising: http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com...olution_v2.swf

DOVE has done a great job with their "Natural Beauty" campaign. They've been producing some wonderful, important commercials geared at young women and their self-esteem the past year, as has Special K. I commend them.

What can you say about it? There's a reason why our brains are hardwired to "see" beauty in a certain way. If anyone read 'the Da Vinci Code', there's a lot of math involved when it comes to artwork. All the masters know this ratio whereby we see things as attractive.

When the guy 'chopped the pic of that model (she was pretty to begin with ... you can tell by the structure of the features of her face ... nothing make-up couldn't fix), the graphic artist was manipulating her features towards achieving the ratios (fibonacci sequence or 'golden ratio').

I think the photoshop skills involved are impressive, but what is the point? It's not what the woman looks like. When you start doing stuff like stretching her neck, lowering her shoulders and messing with her eyebrows, a line has been crossed. How is that good for anyones self esteem? It's like saying "She's not good enough as she is so let's make a few adjustments." That's a far cry from just using some makeup or doing her hair.

Sorry, but this bugs me. It's not representative of how the woman looks in real life. If anything, I think it sends the wrong message to women. Just my

I think the point of the ad is to show "real" women that photographs of women portrayed on billboards and in magazines have gone through such an ridiculous amount of post-processing that they should realize no one is every going to be (naturally) as beautiful as those women.

So where are all those models that you see strutting their stuff on the run-way?

And I guess Tyra's "America's Next Top Model" makes sense now. I watched one season of it, and then they started having girls that one would have never expected to be considered a model. I stopped watching...who wants to watch an icky girl dress up to be something she's not? I'd rather just watch girls who don't need to do anything more to be attractive...they just are (attractive not necessarily meaning physical looks)
