Thumbs down Can't get all megapixels utilized

Alright, so my P&S that I have is a Casio Exilim EX-S770.

It's advertised as a 7.2 megapixel camera. Now I realize that actual megapixels on a 7.2mp camera may be 7 or 7.1 because of formatting or whatever that reason I can't remember what I read about...but I am really frustrated because I have my settings on the highest I get them, and when I load them up onto my computer, it is telling me they are only 4.2mp pictures....what's up with that???

I have the quality set to 'Fine' and I have it on the 7mp selection....why am I not getting 7mp shots???

EDIT: On the 7mp setting, it says I'm taking a 3072x2304 picture which is between a 7.05 and 7.1 mp., but my mac is saying it's a 4.2.

we're a relatively friendly community here, this is just for temporary amusement and should not be construed in any negative manner.

That's hilarous! I could sense the frustration you had.

Kind of related.

When I look through my binoculars everything is really small instead of really big? WTF????

Should I send them back? Are they defective? Maybe they put a part in backwards.

Semi related - It annoys me when people set their camera to anything less than the highest resolution/quality available.

Unless there is a valid reason.

Like when I did time-lapse, I used a lower quality jpg to save space and since the final result was going to be even smaller than the camera could take.

But I know what you mean.

This was really funny!

Thanks, OP, for the laugh!

BTW, none of the pots in my sink get cleaned when I set the dishwasher to the "pot scrubber" setting...

Well even if you set the dishwasher to jet blaster setting, I'm not sure much would get clean if you just let them sit in the sink....
