Canon SD630 or SD700 IS?

I know there have been many posts about these two cameras... but I still can't make up my mind. My wife really wants a small pocket P&S camera.

Can you guys help me decide?

Since they've been out for a whilte... prices have dropped quite a bit. I'm looking to pick one of these up at Costco.

SD630 $259.99
SD700 IS $309.99

Thoughts?

SD700 for sure. The extra $50 is worth it for IS

I do like the IS... but the 3" lcd screen on the SD630 is very enticing.

Too bad Busted Buy no longer carries the SD700 IS. I have a 12% coupon to use this weekend.

^^ IS, is the way to go. Got to www.amazon.com and look at these, you can read what others have written. You can also check...

I just sent back the 800IS and got the A710IS, very pleased with it.

700IS. The 630's screen is simply too big IMO. Its an accident waiting to happen. And you can't beat IS.

I bought my fiance the 630 when it came out months ago and she loves it! Women love to take pics and show them off right away and the 3" lcd is perfect. She keeps it in a small case in her purse and it's been perfect.

I went through the same decision process before I got the 630 over the 700.

dunno if you already bought the cam... but I saw the SD900IS at Techbargains today for $360 from Dell after discounts. That is ridiculous cheap. It was a dual 15% off and I don't know if it was 100% sure, but it looks like you can possibly get some sick deals on it if you wait a little longer.

god my SD550 is like a dinosaur.. lawl

IS = Image Stabilization.
I used to have an SD550 and I sold it and spent $100 more from what I got for it to get the SD700IS. I was willing to pay that much for it, and I def. would pay $50 over the 630 for IS.

I took hundreds of pics with the 550 and loved it, but the number one problem was camera shake. The 700 solves that, even if I lose 1MP. The LCD is the same size, but has more pixels than the 550 - you may want to see the pixel count on the 630 - if the LCD panel is bigger, but has the same # of px then you may want the smaller screen...

One more thing on the screen - my old 550 had a garage door opener fall on the panel and damaged it. Canon fixed it free, but after that I'd rather have a 2.5" than a 3" LCD any day - less area to get broken.

There are newer models than the 700IS you may want to look at - there may be good deals for the holidays - www.techbargains.com

Funny, cause a store up here only had 700IS's. I guess they were waiting to sell them all before bringing in 800's.

You are spot on. I had purchased the SD630 a while back, and was not satisfied. The problem was that while the 3" screen is nice in theory, Canon chose to basically use a screen with the same pixel count as the 2.5" in the SD600. The result was that every picture looked blurry on the screen and I could not tell when I captured a decent picture or a blurry picture. I ended up returning it and buying a Panasonic that I was very happy with until I accidentily broke it. Since they no longer offered that camera, I went with the SD600. It is essentially the exact same camera as the SD630, only with the 2.5" screen and a viewfinder. So far I have been very happy. So if you are considering the SD630, I'd add the SD600 to the mix, save a little and get a smaller but much clearer screen.

Hey guys,
I almost forgot about this thread. I was finally able to order the SD700IS through Costco two weeks ago. They finally had it in stock online, and I jumped on it. It came out to roughly $335 after tax. We love it!

Then... they finally restocked on the Canon Rebel XTi at the warehouse and I grabbed it right away for $799 before taxes!

Now we have alot to learn about photography. These were our early gifts to each other.

Happy holidays guys!

yeah, my last trip, 1/3 of my pics had blurryness from all of the shake on the camera. I would def pay the extra money for IS...whats the point of a 3" LCD if your pics keep comin out blurry??
