I'm very happy about the current state of electronics where even pieces of hardware can be updated to current specs - whereas some feel they should be 100% perfect and not need any updating, at the time of their original release. |
I think it may have been a typo, but in the recent issue of Outdoor Magazine, there is a photo of a mountain biker doing a back flip (pretty cool) and it says that the pic was taken with a 5D Mark IV.
Has to be a typo right? |
Yes. The 3 just came out...
Yup either talking about the 5D mark III or the 1D mark IV
Updated 7D fw to 2.0 without trouble last night.
The megapixels look better now. Would recommend. A+++ |
wait, what do you mean the megapixels look better?
I am confused, too!
pixel peeping
but I didn't see anything about improvements in IQ or pixels etc.... did I miss something?
^^ that's the kind of thing that will make me want to do the upgrade right away - the improvements I did see, none of them made me want to do it right away
Maybe the improvements made the LCD screen better?
I don't see any improvements in the LCD. I do like how you can shoot longer bursts

I'm confused
i don't think we were supposed to understand in the first place.
Anyone want to buy my 7D? I barely use it now after picking up my 5d MKIII. I know someone out there wants their 4th 7d! :D
I think it could be entirely feasible for Canon to increase the IQ and megapixel quality of the 7D using a firmware update, hence why I was asking whether I missed something.

Yeah I don't see IQ improving much via software... not enough to be noticeable at least. Unless it's something like improved metering or WB algorithms or better in-camera NR, or more efficient compression when shooting JPEG. Those are all possibilities, but not for RAW shooting.
You can't get more megapixels via software. Anyway, back to Canon news - did you all read the whole 6D rumor? A new FF between the 5D Mk III and the 7D has been rumored with a while - sort of a FF 7D (w/ pop up flash and other 7D-like things), but CanonRumors had a blurb about it recently that makes it sound like it's more real than just a rumor. |
Yea I posted somewhere earlier in this thread that the 7d mkII was going to be FF but didn't say if they were going to name it 6D
I never said MORE megapixels, I only said I think it's not far-fetched to increase megapixel quality via software update. I think that's possible because once the image is captured it goes through some software processing to arrive at the final product.
If you shoot raw then, no not really.

Doesn't really justifying getting the MKII over the original, eh?

From Roger “This is short, sweet, and simple. The resolution absolutely, positively kicks butt and takes names. It is way better than the lens it replaces. It’s better at 70mm than the best Canon zoom I know of, the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II. It’s even better at 24mm than the sharpest 24mm prime we have, the Canon 24 TS-E. In the center, in the corners, it doesn’t care. We only had 5 copies to test, but they were all very similar with little copy-to-copy variation. Resolution is not everything, of course. But it’s certainly an important thing. Unless the real lens reviewers find some dramatic problems with this lens, I’d have to lean towards worth-the-money on this one. I can’t believe I’m saying that a $2,300 standard zoom is worth the money. But then again, I can’t believe I’m seeing a zoom lens out resolve a $2,000 world-class prime, either.” |

I can't believe they came out with a camera with those specs at that price. The most that camera should cost IMO is $1,799.
Where do you see the price? No linky...
So they release a FF and dumb it down a lot
The joystick is gone. All the buttons on the left side are gone. Top panel buttons have been simplified to single function only. Single SD Card slot only. 1 cross type AF point only. Old style viewfinder doesn't have LCD overlay like 7D or 5D3 And they got rid of the direct print button :run: |
MASSIVE disappointment.
