There have been many "I'll make you shoot film" comments lately.

DPR has some more varied sample images from the 50D up on their site now:

Thanks for the link!
I never know what to make of DPreview's sample images. Sometimes they're really excellent, other times it looks like they handed the camera to their janitor to snap some shots around town. These are somewhere between those extremes. The colours look pretty desaturated in some images, but who knows what settings they used for these in-camera JPGs. A few images look great though.
I think the one of most interest is the ISO6400 one of the fruit. The noise and banding is pretty poor in the shadows at 100% magnification. The exposure (or lack thereof) is really what's killing that shot. If you're going to use high ISO, you need to expose well to the right. The good news is there's a lot of detail left in the image, so it would clean up nicely with Noise Ninja. Also, since this is a in-camera JPG, much more could have been done with a RAW image. DPP is really very good at reducing noise.
I'm only on Day 3 of my wait and I'm dying already.
I love reading all these tests and reviews, but on the other hand, they drive me nuts because I can't try it out for myself.

I clicked through 10-15 of them and was like ??? the clarity and definition is terrible... I do think its something with the processing. I get better pictures with my D70. Hell, after processing I get better ones with my SD550.

That's just it... there are so many picture quality settings that can be adjusted in-camera for JPGs that it's anyone's guess what they did. I like the images in the D90 preview to be honest, but some of those are even oversaturated IMO.
I need to get my hands on a few RAW files...

Interesting reactions. I thought the shots looked pretty good myself, with good color, clarity and sharpness. Sure, the ISO 6400 shot is noisy blown up, but it looks pretty good at the regular size and it's a full stop better than the 40D. The metal relief of the ship shot at ISO 1600 looked really good, but it looks like that one was exposed more like Dan was talking about, to the right of the histogram.
The full reviews will reveal more and I would like to see some shots made from RAW files also.

It can shoot up to 6.3 fps, in bursts of up to 90 JPEGs (using an UDMA CF card), 60 JPEGs (using a CF card) consecutively or 16 RAW files, so you'll never, ever miss a shot.

A few more shots from a pre-production 50D, including a couple at ISO 3200. They look pretty clean and you can d/l the full sized images:

i might be there around the beginning of November.

I think you'll pay more for it over there with the exchange rate the way it is. Plus if it needs work, Canon USA won't fix it under warranty.

I buy 90% of my stuff south of the border because of the great price and service I get from B&H. The 50D is coming from a local store because it's only $40 more here, which is about the same as it would cost for shipping it from the US.
Canon Canada dropped the prices on a number of their products to stop as much of the importing as they can, but there are still a ton of products in the lineup that are far cheaper in the US. The last thing I brought up from the US was the 85/1.8 and the 580EX II. The combined total after shipping and tax was 40% less than I could buy it for in Toronto.
For some strange reason, my big Epson I just bought was $400 less here than it was at B&H. You win some and you lose some I guess...

Mizouse, I wouldn't fool with overseas cameras just for the warranty reasons alone. I would guess you wouldn't end up saving much, if any, money at all over U.S. prices anyway.

If I end up getting this body, I think I'll keep the 40D. More and more I find myself wishing I had a second body a lot of the time. I never thought I'd get there, but there I am.
It would be so nice to have two bodies mounted with different lenses.
